U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has put a price on the government shutdown in Washington, D.C., and it’s a big one.

Speaking at a conference, Bessent said that the U.S. government shutdown is “starting to cost the economy about $15 billion a day in lost output.” He added that the shutdown is now a primary factor hampering economic growth in America.

The Treasury Secretary said that the ongoing federal government shutdown is becoming a significant obstacle for the entire economy, but blamed the rival Democratic Party for the current impasse in Congress. Still, Bessent said that “America is open for business” despite the current political challenges.

Perhaps this is the dem's end-game....Damage the nation's GDP so that when they come out of the shutdown they then try to make hay out of a decline in GDP that they themselves instigated.

I mean isn't that what dems habitually do, cause problems then blame someone else for them.

I think I might be on to something. ;)

Now you know how much illegals matter to democrats and how little Americans matter to democrats.
If they keep it shut down and SNAP/EBT cards don't get recharged the vile dems may as well dissolve their party.

I heard that some blue states plan on using their rainy day fund to make up the shortfall if it happens.

Hey, I hope the dems fight it out on that line if it takes them all of Fall and Winter. Bleed the blue states dry.

All up to the republicans just like 2021 was up to the democrats. FYI, incase you dont remember the Democrats steered us away from a shut down.

Nobody gives a shit about what may or may not have happened four years ago.....Deflection noted.

I could bore everyone and post what Schumer said about a past shutdown about passing a clean CR but I won't bother.

I live in the now.

Of course! The democrats continue to run up the deficit -- through the back door.

All I could find is the treasury secretary said the shutdown could start costing 15 billion weekly. I didn't see where he came up with that, unless he's referring to consumer misgivings. It had to be based on something.
LOL, so now you want to question the treasury sect'y. LOL, who would be a better source of information re: the treasury than the head of the dept. SMFH. Ignorant.
