Why is this one failing?

Do you think that PXs and Commissaries make money?

I can tell you they do not. After I retired from the Marines I spent a bit under 2 years as the Produce Manager for a Commissary. Went there after I left WalMart and before I started my current job.

The first month I did our monthly inventory with the store manager and at the end of it I was told "you made too much money", words I had never heard while working at WalMart that is for sure. I was not allowed to have more than 5 percent plus or minus at the end of the month. I was told we were not there to make money but to provide a service to the member of the Military that shopped there. And this was just on the cost of the produce, this did not include any labor which was not factored into the equation at all.

Wal Mart was the result of a nation that was transitioning from mostly capitalism to eventually mostly socialism. Mom and Pop stores declined as they could not compete. Wal Mart had the foreign made products locked up. And as the years have gone by, the foreign made products increased geometrically.

The Government has been running Commisaries and PXs at military bases around the world
They have prices cheaper than the surrounding communities

Of course, like the Post Office, they have 85% of their actual operating cost subsidized in other areas by the taxpayers.

Just imagine what you could do if you could defer or write off 85% of your living and operating cost on someone else?!

You'd have two homes with two fine automobiles in every garage!

Kinda like your congressman, senator, VP and Prez.

Only, if YOU did it, they would call it fraud, bunco, or some sort of RICO racketeering and arrest you!

The government employs publicly what they would arrest you for if you employed it privately!

The government is non-profit because all it does is consume massively while not returning 1 cent of profit it didn't simply take from someone else. Worse, far from saving money, they spend $2,000 to supply $12 dollars worth of "free" hammers, while paying themselves $10,000 to administer and regulate the buying and distribution of them!

Even worse, they give out the hammers only to their "friends" who in turn kick back lots of money largely made from those hammers in "grift" back to their "benefactors" in the form of campaign contributions and other "benefits."
