Some Republican lawmakers have a big problem with the Senate’s emergency coronavirus legislation, which improves unemployment benefits for millions of people being laid off during the pandemic: They think Americans won’t want to go back to work.
“A massive drafting error in the current version of the coronavirus relief legislation could have devastating consequences: Unless this bill is fixed, there is a strong incentive for employees to be laid off instead of going to work,” GOP Sens. Lindsey Graham (S.C.), Rick Scott (Fla.), Tim Scott (S.C.) and Ben Sasse (Neb.) said Wednesday in a statement, according to RawStory.
The four senators proposed adding an amendment that would limit unemployment benefits to 100% of a worker’s salary.

How long do they think $1,200 is going to last us?
Talk about out of touch.

Hospitals are struggling, the virus cases are climbing, and these guys are worried about people becoming lazy. Their priorities are amiss. President Trump should have a nasty talk with them.

The only "out of touch" here is you with your own fucking link, Spanky. What part of "unemployment benefits" made your shit-stupid self think they were talking about the $1200 check?

If you're gonna cite it, at least have someone read it to you first.

They also didn't say anything about "lazy", so spare me the excoriation based on someone else's interpretation of what they said.

What they actually said is that unemployment benefits that pay more than the person would make on the job disincentives the person to go back to work. This is self-evident, since most Americans are smart enough to do that math and make the obvious decision.

It's $1,200 AND extended unemployment benefits. The concern is valid. But if the bill was written properly any extended benefits would be temporary to help Americans get through the immediate crisis.
