Sen. Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, plans to introduce legislation on Monday that would require any U.S. citizen who has foreign citizenship to choose between the two countries, Fox News Digital has learned. It would also require that if a U.S. citizen seeks a foreign citizenship in the future, that person would effectively give up their U.S. citizenship.

Moreno, who was born in Colombia, said in a statement to Fox News Digital, "One of the greatest honors of my life was when I became an American citizen at 18, the first opportunity I could do so."

"It was an honor to pledge an Oath of Allegiance to the United States of America and only to the United States of America. Being an American citizen is an honor and a privilege — and if you want to be an American — it’s all or nothing," he said. "It’s time to end dual citizenship for good."

Does anyone think this would ever happen?

How many folks in this country have dual citizenship?

Which countries are you allowed to have dual citizenship with?

It would be very difficult to enforce.

If you become a naturalized US citizen, that doesn’t automatically cancel your original citizenship.

In some cases, the process of renouncing your citizenship in your home country can be quite onerous.

My wife and kids applied for and got Luxembourg citizenship. I personally think that we have bigger fish to fry than ending dual citizenship. Birthright citizenship is a WAY more important and needs to end in most cases.

Birthright citizenship should be settled long before this matter would be enforceable.

Ideally we would stop recognizing dual citizenship. Absolutely no dual citizen should be allowed elected office.
I'm not seeing the issue with dual citizenship. That is far different than birthright citizenship awarded to a child because the pregnant Mother entered the country illegally.

Dual citizenship held by elected officials results in the official feeling that they only represent their fellow countrymen and work for the benefit of their home countries.

Maria Salazar has stated that she only represents her fellow Hondurans. Ilhan Omar gives all her speeches in somali. Rashida Tlaib is a loyal and patriotic Palestinian. Ugandan Zohan Mandami says he will not follow American law. His obligation is to international law.

Having dual citizen government officials will only split the nation in tribes.

I can't see it.

I wonder how Jews would feel about it. Just a guess but wouldn't they be most affected since they can easily claim Israeli citizenship? At least that's my understanding.
I have a better question, why should I care how jews feel about anything?

If they really claim they have no dual loyalty then they need to prove via a yes vote and if they refuse they need to be arrested and charged for treason.

I agree on the hard requirement of US Citizenship only for elected officials. Just not on unilaterally ending dual citizenship.
