i believe we have a totally different view of "what it used to be", i would love to see America "United" like it was during WWII, what is your view??

I think those days are long gone and not returning.

We are too divided of a country and will probably always be. It's Socialism vs Capitalism and there is little middle-ground. One side believes government should take care of everything and the other side believes people should take care of themselves.

America wasn't 'united' in the 1940's - the Blacks, Queers, Spics, Catholics, etc. just all knew their place. That's a far cry from living united in peace.

Those of us who are trying to figure out the behavior of the conservative wing of the GOP have been wondering what the ultimate goal is, and what you're saying there has not been brought up much. Are you serious when you say that, would you like to see Congress essentially grind to a halt across the board? Constitution is too bland and out of date....IF you tried redoing it would get destroyed....so....doesn't leave much choice really...I mean seriously the SC makes a mockery of the constitution especially by saying a BUSINESS is a Person...its just dumb....need to strip SC of their power.

The Constitution is short, sweet and to the point. The framers knew that they were unable to live up to it's ideals, they gave it to their future as a goal that has yet to be acheived.

Living up to the blind fairness and freedom described in that document remains a goal that we should actually achieve and live by for a few years before we discuss tossing it aside.

Yep, and living by it would also include the limitations placed on the federal government as well. The framers used very simple language in article 1, section 8, the first section giving the government power to raise money for two distinct and separate spending categories, general welfare and common defense. They went on to enumerate exactly what that money could be spent on within those categories. All three branches of government have ripped up those limitations, so in fact, we have not been operating within the bounds set forth by the framers for more than 150 years. Our problem is the people aren't aware or educated enough to know that in reality we have been operating in a post-constitutional country for a very long time.

It's not all black or white though. The best economic system for our species to evolve into from here is one where a free market handles all the stuff that people want a LOT of choices in like cars and phones, and the collective, a.k.a. the government, handles the boring shit we simply want to work when we use it like roadways, sewage treatment, and other infrastructure.

I for one have confidence that Monkeys will figure it out.

The sheer variety in this biosphere has always been an evolutionary advantage for earthlings... In spite of our apparent infatuation with awkward prom pictures from the 70's and 80's, I'm long in every market and betting the farm on Monkey spawn just because of the variety of political experiments currently underway.
