Americans dont see us as a global empire because we aren't. Unless of course you want to totally rewrite the definition of what an empire is. When was the last time we taxed the rest of the world? quite the opposite they have been taxing us. We spend billions of dollars in charitable donations to the rest of the world every year. The only people who have been abusing the blessings we have been given are those on the left who have refused to acknowledge the source of those blessings and give gratitude for them. They are the ones who refuse to stand up to defend the rights of hteir neighbors.

Merely that you were correct in your previous post. Many of the conspiracy theories that you pointed out in Padisha's post can be shown to be false because of some of the facts that I posted.

1. Russia sits on the largest proven oil reserves outside of Saudi Arabia already.

2. The KGB was a lot more likely involved in Yuschenko's poisoning than the CIA. After all, Putin has been trying to influence the outcome of the Ukrainian elections (in order to expand Russia's influence in the region). He also is the former head of the KGB, so what are the chances that, if the KGB did poison Yuschenko, that he didn't have knowledge of it ahead of time?

America is a global empire in a figurative sense, not in a literal one. First of all, empires are ruled by emperors who attain their posts by non-democratic means. Our presidents are all elected. Second, empires subjugated the countries they occupy and force their rule of law upon them. America does not have colonies, nor is it subjugating other countries (unless you call allowing the Iraqis to enjoy democracy and the right to choose their own rulers a form of subjugation, which wouldn’t surprise me).

In the past, empires have actually benefited the people they conquered. For instance, the Romans built cities, aqueducts, roads and so on in all the areas they conquered. They also introduced Roman culture and learning in those regions. The British Empire also helped raise the standard of living in many of the countries that they occupied. So, although empires have had a bad rap, they also did some good.

The leftists of the world have been advocating the distribution of wealth since time immemorial. Corporations are doing just that. Wherever they go, they are providing jobs for people and creating wealth. You also operate under the mistaken assumption that corporations are owned by the CEOs or the boards of directors that govern them, not so. Corporations are owned by the shareholders of those corporations, who expect a profit for the money they invest in them. Considering that most Americans own stock (including members of this board, and probably even you), we (and perhaps you) are the greedy corporate pigs that are spreading capitalism throughout the world. Sounds to me that people in other countries should be able to help themselves, but must be given the opportunity to do so by 1) enjoying democracy and self rule, so that those people can determine their country’s destiny rather than have a dictator do it. 2) spreading free market capitalism to other countries, since free market capitalism is, has been and probably always will be a proven means of creating wealth. And let me tell you, nothing defeats poverty like wealth.

If the Americans want to be a strong leader in the world that people and nations look up too with respect and dignity, we will have to overhaul our domestic and foreign policies. The health and security of our nation influences the condition of the people all around the world. Too often disputes between nation arise from a lack of understanding of history bring us to this point. Only by bring our political and economic policies into balance will we begin to address the real problem we face as a nation. Whether it is the war in Iraq or the poppy fields in Afghanistan or our national debt the American people are going to pay for the mistakes.

Being a strong leader does not equate to being loved by your enemies, but respected by them. America became a world leader by defeating and killing Nazis, Communists, dictators, and so on, not by getting on their Christmas Card lists or having them invite us to the prom. A foreign policy based on friendship rather than national interest is a recipe for disaster. The reason that our allies are our allies is because it is in their best interests to do so, nothing more. To prove my point, consider that some of our worst enemies from the past are now our biggest allies (e.g. Britain, Italy, Japan) and some of our previous allies are now becoming our biggest enemies

France, Russia, Germany, have proven by their actions and words that they are out to counter American influence. That makes them our enemy. If we piss them off, then we are obviously doing something right. We should continue to do that, until we defeat them. The same can also be said for terrorists and their supporters, except instead of just pissing them off, we should kill them all before they kill us, take their money and bury them. THAT'S how we will show the world that we are a strong world leader.
