...is fucking amazing. You can drive down the highway without touching anything, at a set speed, staying centered in your lane.

Say you are set at 75mph and you encounter a car ahead of you going 70, the car will slow down to maintain a safe distance. THEN it will check to make sure nothing is in the lane beside you, move you to the passing lane, pass the bastard, and bring you back into the right-hand lane, all without you doing anything. And for trucks, it will do all this even if you are towing a trailer.

It monitors your EYES to make sure you are paying attention. If you look elsewhere for more than a short period (or close your eyes), the steering wheel will flash red to get your attention, then the bolsters will vibrate. If you are still not paying attention, the car will gradually slow down and pull over to the side of the road, eventually stopping safely.

In three years of commercial use, they have not had a single unsafe "incident" with this system.

This is why GM employees far more IT types than mechanical engineers.
