Give 'em hell Barry!!!!!!

Who signed NAFTA? When Obama repeals it, you let me know.

I won't have to wait for me as you'll hear this collective scream of the right wing crying about protectionism.

Clinton signed it in a bipartisan effort. You people could really learn a thing or two from Democratic Presidents.

Like what? How to lie, cheat, steal, and quibble over the meaning of the word "is"? Of course, compared to the Emperor-With-No-Clothes, there is something to be said for a draft-dodging, skirt-chasing, dope-smoking halfwit like Bill Clinton: at least he was a halfwit! This one isn't that intelligent!

You can say many disparaging things about Clinton - sly and womaniser come to mind. But a halfwit? Not even close....he could have a lobotomy and still have a higher IQ than the Shrub.

And you talk about skirt chasing and dope smoking as if it's a bad thing...

As for draft-doding, shall we talk about George "Got in the National Guard thanks to Daddy's connections" Bush jr? Or how about Dick "five deferments" Cheney or John "six deferments" Ashcroft.

Why is it you leftists continually insult the National Guard by pretending they arent part of the military?

You don't dodge the draft by joining the military. Stop insulting people simply because you dont like what part of the military they chose to serve in.

He never said he didn't like it. he is saying Bush got out of going to the rice paddies by joining the national guard.

Where are we going to get the $450B that this is going to cost?

Where will the revenue come from?

We can always take it from the next FEMA post-disaster funding...

How about we take away your "crazy check"????

Serious question: Where is the money going to come from?
Obama's stash?

Where do we derive the revenue?

I can understand if you can't answer it because I can't either.
At least I can admit it.

Doesnt change the fact that he still served in the military. He wasn't dodging service.

Ok. He wasn't dodging service. Now how come not everyone was able to join the national guard instead of getting shot at?

I'm not insulting the military, I'm insulting conservative partisanship. Me? I think it brilliant that Clinton dodged the unjust war that was Vietnam. I wish 50,000+ other Americans had, too.

That aside, do you know the odds of being sent to Vietnam if you were in the NG compared to being drafted?

Nice dodge BTW - we'll make it about insulting the national guard, instead of the rich protecting their own, while the poor become their cannon fodder...

apparently, the truth troubles our friend avatar. so much so that rather than acknowledge the truth of the statement, he has to pretend it's somehow bashing the military to tell the truth

oh...and avatar.... they absolutely DID get out of going to vietnam by joining the guard in those days (unlike what happened during iraq). it was the poor schmucks who got sent off to the rice paddies.

And, when that meager congressional approval rating teaches your kind a lesson or two about burning down the house when trying to light up a room I'm sure you'll be blaming those "Bolshevik" boogeymen then too..

If obstruction is your strategy I look forward to 2012.

You looked forward to 2010 too. How'd that work out?

Your kind didn't have enough rope time to tie your own noose by then.

We'll see how the whole "**** you" strategy will work out for you after people have some time to taste the fruition of your 2010 choices.
Really? Not enough time? We sure had plenty of time to tie one for that "super majority" of yours, though; not that it took much effort. Here's a hint: Most of America doesn't agree with you; hell, most of America doesn't even like the crap your party stands for!The country had a national temper tantrum, and put your guys in charge; predictably, you thought that was a "mandate for change", the people told you "NO!", and you went ahead anyway. (You have always been a party of arrogant know-it-alls). This is the result.

I was in those rice paddies, Jillian, and I was neither poor, nor a conscript-like two-thirds of those who served there, I enlisted voluntarily. I don't disparage those who served in the Guard or Reserve for their choice to do that, any more than I disparage those who were "in the rear with the gear" while I was carrying a ruck and a rifle. We were all on the same team. At least, they weren't in the street, chanting "Hell no, we won't go!", or cheering for Ho Chi Minh.

So you were one of the exceptions....good for you!

What is wrong with chanting "Hell no, we won't go"? Sounds like a good plan to me....

then you were part of a minority. and i respect your going. you put your money where your mouth is.

i'm afraid though, i don't see anything wrong with the 'hell no, we won't go' thing either. the people who said that believed with all their heart that we had no reason to be in vietnam.... just as you believed it was your duty to go.

well, besides that pesky congressional "**** no I won't play with dems" approval rating.

The Congress includes the Statists as well. What part of that don't you get?

you can polish the turd however you want, buddy. Popular opinion of congress, and specifically republican refusal to compromise, speaks louder than your impotent post.

Look shit.... err I mean shogun, compromising with the boy king is like compromising with a hit man who wants to shoot you in the head and allowing him in stead to double tap you in the heart.

15th post
for every single story like that there are 100 more from those who were glad the WPA saved them from soup lines. Your grandfather wasn't an island during the aftermath of the depression.

I'm not sure if it's 100 to 1, but your point is valid. So if you want a rehash of the WPA, think of how that's going to work out. The inflation-adjusted wage averaged less than our current minimum wage, there was no OSHA, no EPA, and it was all part time work with no ability to hold any other employment. Is that what you think we need today?

Give me an exemption and send them my way. I'll even hire union people if all I have to pay is $900 per month.

I would bet on that horse long before starving the ******* entire barn.

Go find me 20 people willing to work 30 hours a week for $208 and get me an exemption so that all I have to pay is that. I'll even comply with OSHA and the EPA (none of which were around in FDR's time). No need to have the federal government pay for it, I'll pay it myself. I'll even commit 90% of the profits to the workers.

Does this sound like a good plan to you?

I guess you'd have to ask the unemployed who are facing being kicked off of unemployment while trying to figure out how to pay their mortgage. The WPA wasn't intended to be a permanent solution. However, in the aftermath of the depression it WAS the solution that worked for a great majority of Americans whose options were soup lines or working with what was offered.

It's against the law to spend less than $900 per month for a full time worker. If I were legally allowed to ask the unemployed I would. As it turns out I have to ask the government first. Their mandated rates are a lot higher.

Mind you, my figures are the average rates for WPA employees. So the average WPA wage is much lower than the minimum wage. See the problem with your plan yet?

YEA! who needs to preserve an effort for the MASSES when one asshole, who I'm betting was never forced into working with the WPA, is clearly the center of the UNIVERSE!!

party of "**** you", indeed.

True, he wasn't forced. He always had the option of starving. But when his project building apartments was sold to the city and became a WPA project, his previous pay of $45 per month got cut to $30 per month.

well, bummer ******* days. starving or taking the best option available to him; yup, i'd be angry at the WPA too.

You do understand what the minimum wage is now right? The average salary during the WPA was $52.50 per month. That's just over $10,000 per year in today's dollars. If you are suggesting that the WPA is what we need, then let's put 3 million people to work at that rate. $10,000 per year per person - pick up a shovel and start digging.

Save the taxpayers some money and allow me to use my own money to pay them that rate. I'll do it.

You cool with that?
