I think his safest bet is another republican winning the presidency, pardoning Trump for his crimes.

The self pardon has not been tested yet and I have my doubts it would be accepted.

The president can grant a pardon to someone who committed federal crimes..... This grant, is the President's judgement of the person and whether the president grants the gift of forgiveness to him for this recipient's crimes.... A gift, A grant....

That being said,

No man shall be a judge in his own case, in his own cause..... which is standard operating procedure, more or less,

He can't judge forgiveness and grant a pardon for his own cause... Is my best guess....

This would prohibit the President from granting himself a pardon in his own case...

The other issue is that we believe no one, is above the law.... We elect a president, not a King.

Hopefully he comes to some plea agreement for this case, but I do not believe for the other two pending cases coming, (Self coup, and Georgia's) that he will be able to skirt prison time if found guilty....unless pardoned.

As opposed to Paul Ryan et al? The problen with politicians or any government entitiy is if they aren't held to any standard of accountability, they won't be. No one even asks "what did this politician do to improve my life or country"? People just ask, "does this guy feign a lifestyke like mine though I know he is full of it?".
