Well solar and wind are nice ideas and do have their place. They can be used in moderation to supplement traditional energy and help with the load but they can't replace it.

We should have never tried to just ditch coal and oil. We should have kept using them, used solar and wind to supplement it while we worked on building nuclear reactors which have drastically been improved over the decades. Then used nuclear to slowly take the place of coal.

Really though until we master large scale fusion, we can't abandon traditional energy. Probably the next step after fusion will be learning how to manipulate gravity. But that's 100 years away at best.

Oh I definitely agree with that. Wind, solar, geothermal are excellent as supplemental energies but they just aren't concentrated energy like hydrocarbons and nuclear. We destroy forests, environments, rivers, soils by extracting rare earth minerals.

Not to worry, the US can make up the difference by getting rid of our coal mines, switching to EV cars tomorrow, and getting rid of big oil. It's up to the US to save the entire planet.
