Iceland had very low gun violence rates….but……times change, and gangs are gangs and violence is what they do……and gun control laws don’t stop criminals especially when they need to shoot rival gang members…

Iceland had 4 shootings in 10 years……..and now they have had 4 in the last year……… it… it…America?

Gangs in Iceland are ramping up the violence……..

In February 2021, a man was gunned down in a hail of bullets outside his home in a neighbourhood of the capital Reykjavik, a murder that shocked the nation.

The killing was linked to organised crime, police said.

"Criminal groups in Iceland are becoming more organised," said criminologist Margret Valdimarsdottir.

"They have more ties to international groups than what we've seen before, which may be a challenge for our police force."

In February, two separate drug-related shootings took place in Reykjavik two days apart, one in the city centre.

The gang violence is similar to that already seen in other parts of Europe.

"It takes five to 10 years for what is trending in Europe to show up in Iceland," said Runolfur Thorhallsson, superintendent of Iceland's elite police unit, known as the Viking Squad.

"Of course this is a concern for us."

You just keep pounding this narrative when you know it's BS.

4 shootings in a year? What is that, a 15 minute stretch here in the US? :)
Again, call me when on a percentage basis, they reach our level of deaths from gun violence.

(Sensible) gun control works. No gun laws will eliminate gun violence. The point is to reduce.

Reykjavik has a population of just 122,000 with a very low percentage of people of color.

Comparing it to similar sized, lily white cities in America, their record of gun violence isn't that tremendous.

Yeah.....it is an increase from 4 over 10 years.......the gangs in Iceland are becoming more violent, you doofus...Iceland....of all places........

We have sensible gun control in the U.S.....if you break the law with a gun you are arrested, if you are a felon you can't buy, own or carry a gun.....but then, when the police arrest the violent gun felons, the democrat party judges, prosecutors and politicians let them go...over and over again........

Oh, no! You spoiled my day!

Iceland?

I have always read how peaceful and orderly life is there.

I have to proceed very carefully now, but may I gently and timidly ask what the, uh, "background" of those, uh, "gangs" are?

I am guessing (maybe wrongly) that those, uh, "gangs" are "arrivals" from Europe.

Darn those airplanes!

Even a remote island like Iceland is no longer off limits to those, uh, "gangs"!

2aguy: entropy increases with time. Professor Einstein well understood this situation in relationship to both the physical & human nature elements of the human being. As long as we as humanity are trapped in the dimension of time it can only go from bad to worse, e.g. from spears & clubs to nuclear/bio weapons. We as humanity have as a whole progressed remarkably in understanding the physical human body but simply are totally lost when trying to explain human nature. Like where/when does human nature develop, what is human nature made out of & why does human nature enter entropy the longer time goes on??? The best we have in the field of psychology/psychiatry admit they have no concrete answer to the above question(s). The philosophers are trying their best to explain what makes up our human condition but literally it's the blind leading the blind. Until humanity can escape the time continuum the problem with entropy will continue to escalate, sad but true.

Prior to that, Iceland had 4 gun murders in 20 years. Iceland isn't experiencing a reduction.
