The reason we have so many criminals buying and using guns illegally is because the consequences for doing so are not harsh enough.
So if you want to lower the gun crime rate you take a stand by enforcing the laws we already have with harsh punishments.

If you commit a crime while in possession of a firearm even if the firearm was not drawn during the crime it's an automatic 10 year sentence with no parole. This would make merely possessing an illegal firearm a crime that will get you an automatic 10 years.

If you fire a weapon during the commission of a crime regardless of whether you even actually injure a person you get an automatic 25 years no parole.

If you kill anyone during the commission of any crime. Life no parole.

All of these offences are to be primary charges not to be pleaded down or dropped.

Moron....they send their family and friends into licensed gun stores to buy their guns....or they steal them. What part of that do you not understand. That means that the people they get their guns from pass current....federally mandated background checks...which means....since you are so slow, that those same friends and family will pass any universal background check too......

So background checks do not stop criminals in any way shape or form.....who do you actually catch with background checks......innocent people whose names match those of actual criminals who don't buy their guns from gun stores......then the innocent person has to go through even more hassle to get the gun they can legally buy, while the criminal doesn't care....
