Gambling Is Skyrocketing

Isn’t the lottery state sponsored gambling?
Yep.

I wrote a topic about that a long time ago, with occasional updates as they keep jacking up the odds of winning to astronomical heights.

Powerball and Mega Millions are both now at 292 million to one.

Somehow symptomatic of the country that is gambling itself away .
It's as though there is a destructive compulsion for self harm .

Currently they are odds-on to succeed with nobody wanting to help them except the Bankers, who goad them to further madness by lending them more and more .

More and more states have been relaxing their laws against gambling, seeing it as a way to generate revenues.

The surge in digital access to gambling apps has also fueled the rise of losers throwing away countless billions.

Gambling houses and gambling sites don't use that word, gambling. They call it "gaming". As if.

Since 2019, calls to addiction phone lines have increased by a whopping 60 percent.

With gambling apps, you can bet 24/7 without leaving your soiled bed.

The latest craze is parlay betting. This is betting on several outcomes at once, with the only way to win is for all those outcomes to occur. This attracts the innumerate in droves because the difference between the amount you bet compared to the possible winnings is huge. But it is literally a sucker's bet.

About 20 years ago, I had cause to travel to Las Vegas on business. As a coworker and I marveled at the tremendous size and glitz of Caesar's Palace, I said, "They didn't build that by suckers winning." He nodded and headed to the sports desk to throw away a few hundred dollars. And this guy was an evangelical!

I didn't drop a single dollar the three days I was there, but I did get to meet Colonel Paul Tibbets. That was cool.

I hate the very idea of Las Vegas. And Atlantic City. And Fanduel et al.

This is rapidly becoming a serious public health problem.

It's just like with drugs and alcohol. Everyone deserves the chance to go to hell in their own way.

Greedy democrats want that tax money... they do not care about you or your money...
Red state Alabama has 3 casinos.

Red state North Carolina has 3 casinos.

Red state West Virginia has 5 casinos.

Red state Ohio has 11 casinos.

Red state Indiana has 13 casinos.

Red state Florida has 8 casinos.

Red state Mississippi has 25 casinos.

Red state Louisiana has 20 casinos.

Red state Arkansas has 3 casinos.

Red state Oklahoma has 2 casinos.

Red state Missouri has 13 casinos.

Red state Iowa has 19 casinos.

Red state South Dakota has 22 casinos.

Red state Nebraska has 5 casinos.

Red state Kansas has 4 casinos.

And before you step on your dick again, those are COMMERCIAL casinos. I did not include tribal casinos.

Those hotbeds of liberal Democrats (California, Oregon, Washington and several other blue states) have ZERO commercial casinos.

Why do you hacks make such dumb mistakes without first checking the facts?

//*example: parlay 2 -400 bets to increase payback to $5.65 on $10 bet.//

The probability of winning a single -400 bet is 80%, based on the implied probability from the moneyline odds.

To calculate the probability of winning a two-leg -400 parlay, multiply the individual probabilities:

$ 0.80 \times 0.80 = 0.64 $, or 64%.

Thus, the probability of winning a two-leg -400 parlay is 64%.

//*it is hard work to research 22 games finding most likely 2 bets to parlay together per game oracross games.

I experimented NCAABB winning 16 of 22 in conference TMT one day. At $10 per bet I lost $12 overall as my wins were ~$3 and losses $10.

I broke even going 10-3 another day. Tell the kids it is hard to win betting $10 to win $3, net $13.
Gotta win 3/4 or 4/5 to break even. It is very hard. Same in NFL.

But it keeps you occupied and busy. You don't have to bet hundreds. $10 will make you sweat enough and get you angry. Beware cellphone thru big screen*//

No.

Looks like you have the bug.

There are tabs for Legal Gaming, Casino Gaming, Sport Bettings, and iGaming.

Note the use of "Gaming" rather than Gambling.

iGaming is states which allow online gambling apps to base themselves there. They are a small handful of states, but allow gambling apps to reach across our entire nation.

Looking for a "sure thing" per Sport. Cant' fid it NCAABB but breakig even is a good start. Everyone needs a hobby. I pasted a sample bet above. As I said. Hard work to find likely winners to parlay. Not really worth the efforts.

legalizing it isn't really "greasing the skids" IMHO.

You may be a nicer person than I am.
Imagine if Jack Daniels' was allowed to serve you at your bedside.

That's what is going on with online gambling apps.

That's greasing the skids.

The standard parlay leg is -110. Not -400.

Don't be a sucker.

But they are. Delivery apps will bring a fresh bottle to your house. Hell, here in Kansas you can get liquor by the drink at drive-throughs for craps sake.

"Dave Zirin argues that the normalization of sports betting is hollowing out US sports by transforming them into a product similar to scripted entertainment. This integration threatens to undermine the authenticity of game outcomes, exploits young people, and erodes the integrity of sports journalism, turning leagues into gambling-dependent entities."

BS. There are a whole page of options offered every game. Get off the topic if you don't know. You can "buy" your favorite numbers by reducing winnings per bet. Parlay two low hanging fruit together.

In fact just get off the boards you LW TDS baboon. I posted example 2-leg parlay bet above at -324 odds. Paid $3 on $10 bet.

This and personal injury lawsuits are the new "get rich quick" schemes.

Its sad to see but, I have to admit, that it's sort of alluring at the same point. I can see myself throwing away $10 on a bet where (I'm not sure if this is something you can bet on) an NBA player scores 50 or more points but their team still loses in the playoffs.

The predictions markets (I was listening to a guy on Fresh Air the other day) is what is really sort of unbelieveable. Pretty soon you'll be able to bet on the body count in Iran and pick an under/over. It wouldn't surprise me, I'm sad to say--truly sad to say this, if the blob had some action in on that. Yes folks, our President is just this despicable.

Well, this does conflict with my libertarian streak.

However, the gambling industry is exploiting human weakness, and are using our political system to gain easier and easier access to the weak.

When I was stationed in Mississippi, there was a tavern which had a drive-through liquor store. You could literally grab a fifth of Jack Daniels' from behind the wheel of your automobile.

I don't think it was a coincidence that same town had the highest DUI rate in the country.

That owners of that tavern and the only bail bondsmen in town were one and the same.
I have libertarian leanings as well, but you cannot deny the destructive nature of gambling, just like you can't deny the destructive nature of prostitution. Well, you can, but you are lying to others and/or to yourself.

Whatever.

In fact, in many so called Red states, their state constitution often focuses on ensuring the right to gamble, to abortions, and to illicit drug use. Hunter Biden may as well have written their state constitutions, which clearly is aiding to the destruction of their respective cultures.

I couldn't agree more with you. 👍
Government now looks at "sins" as money makers.
Things they used to ban - marijuana, gambling - they now view as a cash cow, regardless of the harm to the public.
I'm lucky. I don't have an addictive personality, by and large. I've never gambled and have zero interest in it. I haven't smoked pot on well over 45 years.
I look askance at what local governments now not only accept but actively endorse. I think it's sad and a further indication that our society is slip slidin' away ...
