There's no doubt that the Crimea bridge was a big escalation, and there's no doubt that Russia's revenge attack was a big move for Russia too.

I think you're probably right that Russia can't be as discriminating between the Ukraine military and the Ukraine's civilian population as it has been until now.

Putin is clearly not representing his country's interests now and hasn't for several years. With a spectacular display of incompetence, he has led Russia into an unwinnable war that has so far cost the lives of tens of thousands of young Russians and set the Russian economy on course to a deep recession for the foreseeable future. The Russian people have no benefited in any way from Putin's wars so in what was has he represented Russia's interests?
