France is best serve, nonetheless, by his remaining in office, as otherwise the nation is almost certainly condemned to either Melanchon (just slightly right of Stalin) or Le Pen (just slightly left of Hitler). Neither has what it takes to understand and manage international politics and macro-economics. They are about equally popular with a significant portion of their fellow ideologues, but not the majority.
Macron cannot run again in '27, but there would at least be time for someone of quality to emerge.
