I'm all for keeping the great masses ignorant.

seriously, why train a population to do better when we can loutsource everything?

Is loutsource a typo or are you trying to make up a new word? I like the way it sounds, but want to get some idea of what it means. Would loutsourcing only apply to customer/technical service, or could it also apply to the manufacturing sector?

it is everyone's prejoriagative to mangle or make up a word.

What a pie in the sky idea. Have any of you ever visited a public housing project! They rip out the plumbing for dope mpney. Those machines will be stolen, lost, or destoyed long before their "two year plan" expires.

They dropped out of high school because they didn't give a rat's ass about their future, but now they will sit in front of a free computer because they care?

Are you suggesting that all high school drop outs do so because they don't give a rat's ass about their future? Are you really this ignorant? Stupid? High?

Sounds good on a BB, but doesn't work in practice does it? Cut foreign aid and buy them a computer. Simple huh? Raise import taxes on china and buy them a computer. Simple huh? Cut corporate aid Bonuses for exporting and buy them a computer. Simple huh?

I am all for cutting ALL foreign aid. All for raising import tax. I am all for cutting corporate aid bonuses. And all for them STILL paying for their own Internet. Do try and stay on topic.

It also sounds good on paper to give them MORE things for free, for still doing nothing. It also sounds good on paper that they will use the computers and internet to better themselves and improve their minds.

Ok, lets say we deny them the PC & net. You prefer to just go on paying for them forever I take it. I am for improving our lot, not making excuses and out right lies for why we should continue to sit in our own shit and complain, as you do. And you will pay for your own society, there is no ducking it, no getting away from it. They are going to eat, and you are going to feed them. So wish you luck with that.:eusa_angel:

First off no one is denying the anything. They are more then able to buy it for themselves.

I do not prefer them staying on the government tit. I want them weened off of everything. No more assistance. No more lifetimes of living off of the government.

I am not complaining. I am stating my opinion of people who want everything for nothing., of people who want a free ride in life. How about this, each person can have its free internet access and computer IF they show up for school 8 hours a day 5 days a week.

They are already eating and i am already feeding them. They are already under a roof that i am paying for. I do NOT want to give them internet access so they stay on their asses for life.

If low income want internet get TWO jobs and go to night school. You know the old fashioned way of making something of your life. Join the military and learn a skill, you know the old fashioned way of making something of your life.

How much is this program costing the individual taxpayer?

You tell me. $2.1 million to provide free internet service plus some other perks for one low income housing project in Tampa Fl. How much would that be if all low income housing projects in Florida are included. In all of the southeast? In all of the south? In all of the country?

The point isn't so much the amount allocated for this project but the precedent being set and the implications of that.

That works out to just over .13/taxpayer based on filings from 2009. Yes, I think I can handle paying an additional .13/year for this program.
I can't, it is socialism, exactly what obamaturd told joe the plumber. Take from the have's and give to the have nots. Socialist idiots.

Yet you have no problem paying to nation build in Iraq? Really?

I don't understand why neighborhoods or towns don't purchase large bandwidth and make it wirelessly available for its taxpaying citizens. It would probably save cost in the big picture.

A group of people could get together and have their own satellite built and launched that would have all the electronic whistles on it to run their media (phn,pc,tv,ect.) About every ten years you would pay NASA to boost it back into a higher orbit. Other's could buy in and lower your initial costs as time goes by. I think you can do it for a couple million investment, and few tech worker wages.

Yes, and three or four families can get together and pool their money, order internet, put in a wireless hub and they can all use it.

Coming soon for Low Income Folks. . . .Free Internet access and Other Perks

So what do you think? Is it a good use of your hard earned tax dollar to provide free internet access, computer instruction, and low cost computers to folks while you are busting your butt to keep a roof over your head, food on the table, and you pay for your internet access and full price for your computer as well as whatever you need to use it?

Or will the payoff of better skilled and trained people be worth it?

Would you approve of all porn sites, shopping sites, gaming sites, Facebook, Twitter, etc. being blocked by the internet provider to ensure that the computers will be used only for research and educational purposes?

Please discuss.

The Tampa Housing Authority has secured a $2.1 million federal grant to provide broadband Internet access to 23 public housing sites. Details are being finalized with Bright House Networks, which will provide the service, and residents will be connected beginning March 1.

The project will be the first such one in Florida and one of the few in the nation.

Internet access will be available to about 3,400 residents for free for the first two years. After two years, residents will be able to pay for the access for the next three years for $18.35 per month.

In addition to having Internet access, the housing authority also will make available a selection of computer training options, including basic computer and Internet keyboarding, Microsoft A+ Certification and an online computer curriculum for school-age children.

The program also will help residents get computers of their own by offering 1,000 computers for only $125 and will install almost 200 computers in two communities to offer residents a designated work space. The authority also will launch a website for residents to provide information on housing, employment opportunities, and the like.
Coming soon to Tampa public housing: Free Internet access

Why should those who don't pay taxes have free use of library cards too? The lazy poor as Revere so eloquently wrote, and others of his kind point out, receiving free access to the internet will allow them to enjoy gaming and porn when they should be out looking for work.
Such charity is unwarranted, much like minimum wage laws and other perks it rewards the
obvious sloth of such people and perpetuates their existence. Foolish pols using our money simply to buy votes. It's outragous, indecent and wrong.

Sarcasm can be fun.

Realiaty can be fun too.

If they are going to provide free internet access, then provide it for everyone. If they are going to provide free computers then provide one for everyone. Just as libraries are accessible to everyone to use.

I am not happy with handing out PCs, but it is cheaper than running a library, insurance, utilities, taxes, etc., if they have them at home.
I would have to disagree. I'm fairly certain libraries cost less than $500 up front and another $20/month per using citizen to run.

A group of people could get together and have their own satellite built and launched that would have all the electronic whistles on it to run their media (phn,pc,tv,ect.) That's an idea. OR. OR, neighborhoods can just invest in a T3 line and place a few wireless routers in key locations.

How about we do it as this guy suggested recently:

Put me in charge ...

Put me in charge of food stamps. I’d get rid of Lone Star cards; no cash for Ding Dongs or Ho Ho’s, just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans, blocks of cheese, and all the powdered milk you can haul away. If you want steak and frozen pizza ..... get a job.

Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first thing I’d do is to get women Norplant birth control implants or tubal ligations. Then we’ll test recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine and document all tattoos and piercings. If you want to reproduce or use drugs, alcohol, smoke or get tats and piercings .... get a job.

Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks? You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair. Your “home” will be subject to inspections anytime, and possessions will be inventoried. If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360 (or internet).... get a job and your own place.

In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or you will report to a “government” job. It may be cleaning the roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you. We will sell your 22 inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo and speakers and put that money toward the “common good.”

Before you write that I’ve violated someone’s rights, realize that all of the above is voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules.. Before you say this would be “demeaning” and ruin their “self esteem,” consider that it wasn’t that long ago when taking someone else’s money for doing absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self esteem.

If we are expected to pay for other people’s mistakes we should at least attempt to make them learn from their bad choices. The current system rewards them for continuing to make bad choices.

Are the gang bangers on the front porch in Compton "feeding their families?"

You know I think they are. I was over at gang house a few weeks back, just looking for a guy who tried to break into a neighbors house. More of less to send them a message that I would blow thier fucking heads off if I catch them over there. Anyway, sitting among all these bangers is an older lady who looked to be their mom. So I would have to say yes, at least for some of them. The guy that car jacked my lady used her charge card for $45. bucks of hamburgers, if you can imagine that. He was sure enough feeding someone.:eusa_angel:
And you don't like paying for what they haven't earned?

Congratulations. You're a conservative.

You can say all of that again!

Mr Evans needs to run for office. Yes folks - it really is that simple.

Self esteem comes from self accomplishment - not sucking the govt teat at 30. Denying people self realization is far from caring. In fact, its the opposite. Why do libs hate the poor?

I don't think that they hate the poor, they just lack a fundamental understanding of the problem. See, to a liberal, lack of money is the problem that needs to be solved. And it is solved by taking $1 from you and giving $1 to them. Problem is, when the $1 is gone, the poor are still poor.

A conservative knows that the problem is that the poor aren't earning enough money. This is solved by incentivizing and rewrding work, not discouraging it.

It really is as simple as the "give a fish/teach to fish" scenario.
