Why is it necessary?
Why do we feed children in schools? Are food stamps not available?
Do "parents" waste it on potato chips, soda pop and other junkfood?
No. Junk food cannot be purchased with SNAP benefits, which come in the form of a debit card.
Children are fed in schools because children have to be fed. Even in good times, we somehow never managed to set up a good system to make sure that all children are fed, clothed, housed, and educated. Shameful. And to think that the right-wing nutjobs spend so much of their time trying to encourage overpopulation.
there is a system to feed kids, It's called their parents. However seeing as how the teachers union make themselves FAT off of funds that should be used for education, I have no problem whatsoever with food funds going to kids. School is about the needs of kids.
Having said that, if there are hungry kids in this country, with some exception you can bet most of those hungry ones have parents who have no problem feeding themselves, or have no problem paying for HBO, finding enough money for their beer and expensive junk food. part of the reason kids go hungy , circles back to lack of education, parents who dont even know how to make meals and meal plan for a week.... who only know how to microwave food out of cardboard boxes or take out.
You are just repeating the tired right-wing "welfare queen" stuff. Terrible parents. Yadda, yadda, yadda. Millions have been living paycheck-to-paycheck for years. Of course, the coronavirus has exacerbated many problems, but a good deal of our population has been living on the edge for years, as wages stagnated and living costs went up. You are just trying to find someone to blame to justify your attitude that you don't have to give a damn. It doesn't work that way. And if you are one of those anti-birth-control morons who want to increase the number of poor kids, you better care.
we somehow never managed to set up a good system to make sure that all children are fed, clothed, housed, and educated.
Well, that would be living in a commune system. What do you want? to have a government official knocking on peoples doors to make sure they fed their kids tonight?
No one is starving in America because food is not available. As far as education, yes we had a public school system, but liberals have sort of ruined that. Since the creation of the Department of Education in the U.S. our ranking has gone steadily downward. Public schools are pretty much run and controlled by the liberal establishment. they are given more money per student than they are in most countries... yet.. their policy has allowed teachers to lose control of their class rooms. Then you turn around and say there is no system to educate kids.
I think your only upset that the government is not in control of every aspect of peoples lives, but thats not the way it should be. People have free will, they make mistakes and sometimes that means they are un -successful in life. When the government makes sure everyone is successful people do not strive as hard because they dont have to.
Great accomplishments have come from desperate people trying hard, sometimes failing many times in life before finally achieving greatness.
Yes, we could be a socialist nation, but then we would lose something in return for the social safety guarantee leftists want.
