In the Play, was the Mortimer character as manic as Grant played him in the movie?
As I remember in the play, the answer is no. If you watch Cary Grant movies in 30's and early 40's, his screen persona in comedies was different than in the in 50's and 60's. He began his movie career in comedy like a lot comedians. He was often manic playing in a lot of slapstick scenes. In the 1950's he became the Cary Grant we remember today, a suave, handsome hero with deadpan humor as in North by Northwest, To Catch a Thief, People Will Talk, Charade, Indiscreet, Houseboat, Touch of Mink,....
