And we did this under a raging socialist named Dwight D. Eisenhower. Wrap your head around that.
Republicans actually used to practice fiscal responsibility.
How many were on food stamps, medicare, and welfare back then? Was the SS fund being raided by the politicians? Now it's a career and we can no longer afford it even if we taxed the wealthy 100%. So just who are you trying to kid?
Those are different arguments, and if you want to talk about those, I'd be happy to do so.
Yes, I think it's awful that the politicians raided the Social Security Trust fund and I think it's awful that there are people (albeit a much smaller group than the Right Wing wants you to beleive) that think they should live off the government their whole lives.
My ideal world is that everyone should have a job who can physically work a job, and it should be a job that pays a fair and decent living wage.
But you complain about food stamps, and the reality is, 40% of food stamp recipiants have one person in the family who have a job. Just not a job that pays enough to put food on the table.
And this is the argument I've been making for some time here that most of you dance around. When you replace good paying union/manufacturing jobs with crappy McJobs that pay nothing so that the Mitt Romneys of the world can have more money, those working folks don't go off and obediently starve.
They go to the government for help. And then they vote for more of that stuff.
