By 2017, the French “were kicked out” of the lab and cooperation ceased, leading French officials to warn the State Department that they had grave concerns as to Chinese motivation.

Just as the French warned the U.S about 9/11. Though in fairness to the U.S, they only had the general intel that there were some planning to hijack a number of planes and use them as weapons. They didn't have specifics as to when, whom or where.

I understand that France is very much a self-serving nation, their intel agencies place less value on morality. They will sell weapons to whomever is willing to pay and set aside their own principles. This causes problems with the U.S as they can't always trust the French and their motivations/two sided talk.

However, it might be prudent for the U.S and the rest of the West to respect Frances intelligence apparatus. They are world class, and like Israel, Pakistan and a few others, they often obtain access to intelligence that is very uniquely their own, not always well known by multiple nations.
