French President Emmanuel Macron has said France and its allies are preparing a “purely defensive” mission to escort vessels through the Strait of Hormuz once the “most intense phase” of the US-Israeli war on Iran ends.

Speaking in Cyprus on Monday, Macron said the “purely escort mission” must be prepared by both European and non-European countries.

Huh, so we forced the hand of NATO "allies" (more like dependents) to actually do something to help with global issues that they always ignore and expect us to do?

It took about a week for France and the UK to realize they had made themselves totally impotent in global affairs and realize they didn't like not having a say in their own survival.

Blah, the EU contingent of NATO is like the employee that arrives late after all the heavy work is done and picks up a broom and starts sweeping around the shop.

The French, Germans, and Belgiums were the same exact way in Somalia.

They sent troops but they were purely defensive.

The UN troops were useless.

Most of the security belonged to Uncle Sam.

France? That’s some funny shit.

Most powerful Navy force in NATO outside the United States.

The Louisiana Cajun Navy doesn’t count.
You know, the ignorance around here so just damn comical.

The French Navy probably has the most capable, and modern force, when it comes to sweeping mines, in the entire world. While they have almost as many minesweepers as the US, the fleet is much more modern. And, as I mentioned, they have the largest navy of any NATO member outside the US, the only other country outside the US that operates a nuclear aircraft carrier, and their fleet has a much lower average age than ours.

They have cool and pretty toys. Doesn’t keep their leadership from being French.
Two things here. First, evidently, Iran is laying mines. And second, drones are affecting shipping more than any Iranian Navy. So you need mines removed and defense against drone attacks of ships. Who do you call? The French

Good luck trying. 😂

Yes nut the Cajun navy is really cool.

To the topic, France has a decent sized navy and its in their interest to protect ships hauling TOTAL (French company) hydrocarbons.
Sure it is in their interest. We are talking the French though. At their most brave they’ll lay off a couple hundred miles behind the US Naval cover.
The last time they participated in a naval battle, Lord Nelson kicked their butts.

I have an antique French toy soldier :

I am certain the Iranians will cease and desist against the French escorts.

Oh my God - this post reeks of pure jealously and envy. :auiqs.jpg:

Since TACO only bloats and bullshits around - I can fully understand your never-ending frustration.

Iran today set 3 tankers ablaze - making it 14 in total - where is TACO's USN that was to protect those tankers?? - did he already pull out his own wallet to reimburse those companies & sailors??

Anyway - France simply knows who "decisively contributed towards installing" the Ayatollah regime in 1979.

No - French, Belgians and Italians (shitty places) were factually quite active.
They sent troops but they were purely defensive.
Amongst the German UNITAF. contingent - only the officers and a platoon of daily selected security perimeter guards had "life Ammo". Upon Somali villagers & militias approaching us - we highlighted that we are Germans - (you now Hitler and the shebang) and they waved back and left quite fast. - I know US troops never had that "historic bonus". - and will never have. :eusa_shhh:
Also Germans had been very popular in this area due to our previous Aid & Development programs in the 70'ies and 80'ies.
The UN troops were useless.
No UNITAF, manged to fulfill their task admirably.
Most of the security belonged to Uncle Sam.
Nonsense - you mistake the UN mission UNITAF conducted by Germany and others, with the US Aggression towards Somali tribesmen and warlords under UNISOM II. starting March 1993 - then unfortunately under US command.
At least we didn't run like gung-ho idiots into a major trap - and needed Malaysian and Pakistani support - to get us out alive.

I just pity those two Malaysian servicemen who got killed due to US stupidity and arrogance.

What an embarrassment for France; agreeing to help clean up a pedophile's mess for nothing in return

That's not the impression I got. I spent most of 93' there.

However, I think the Clintons had a lot to do with the way Mogadishu went to shit.

We had to kick the Italians off of the Embassy compound and send them to the soccer stadium because they kept spying on us and telling Aideed everything we were doing.

There was next to zero Germans, a few Canadians, and Australians were up in Baidoa running the place quite well.

Can't say much, aside from the impressions I got at Kismayu, Baidoa or Belet Uen

Well he was the one that put an end to US direct combat involvement upon Oct. 1993. (aka regime change).
