• Independent autopsy: A separate autopsy, commissioned by Floyd's family, reached a similar conclusion, ruling the death a homicide caused by "asphyxiation from sustained pressure".
• Lack of oxygen: Expert witnesses testified that the restraint by law enforcement prevented Floyd from getting enough oxygen, which was the cause of his death.
