Once again I found myself burnt out on the AR15/M16 Platform . I dove headlong into the HK Platform with an HK 91 ( G3) and its spares and Mags and trickery . Then I thought of an HK 22LR and remembered the GSG 5 Mishegoss of 15-20 years back . I remembered how snobby I was ( into real deal Retro M16/ AR15 builds and thinking 22 Conversion units for those and not yet doing Dedicated 22 Builds ) and the AKT-98 / WASR 22 craze ( Real Romanian AK22 ) was hittin hard so I had 3 of those already and the GSG 5 seemed too Airsofty with its Split receiver ( a no no in the AR / M16 and AK/ AKM arenas ) and passed on the GSG love affair & court dramas . Well now I’m revisiting the little blaster from the Past and love it as a change up . Pics. Inbound of two builds I have so far with refinements deemed worthy over such a long time of others tinkering and aftermarket wizardry …

I found that the S&W M&P 15-22 .22 pistol was a lot better as far as a suppressor host, ease of optic mounting, etc.

/-----/As a Baby Boomer, let me say, I read your post and have no idea what you're talking about. I understood the words "platform" and "builds," but nothing else.
BTW, can you use a rotary pay phone?

He's in CA and stuck with .22 clones so forgive him.

That said there was never a Romanian .22 AK "craze" anywhere I'm aware of. ;)

My HK 91 ( G3 ) ,1961 BSA British L1A1 ( SLR) and Chinese Arsenal 26 Type 56 “ Spiker “ AK and 1997 ArmaLite AR10A2 are as good a Rigs as any of you so called Free Staters

Considering there were fewer than 10 thousand imported of all 5 variants ( and only around 500 examples of the 2 AKT 98 variants brought over ) it was a Craze for Collectors of Real AK Rifles

One uber rare 2001 AKT -98 ( RPK version) is at 1250.00 $ on Gunbroker and rising in bidding and was 425.00$ new OTD . I have 2 AKT 98 variants ( Bone Stock one as a collector item and one Side Folder ) and 2 Newer Romanian RAK 22s ( one with rare Faux Phenolic Furniture and one all original NIB ) and a 2007 WASR 22 with Romy G wood

That top one reminds me of the "Grease gun."

No idea why, but I always wanted one of them.

A friend of mine who's a Vietnam Vet was issued one of those (M3) and a M1911A1 as a M48 tanker (driver). The Army was still issuing them in 1966.

He was wounded and evacuated to the states the same year.

He was outside the M48 working on the tank when a VC opened up on them with a old water cooled M1917 machine gun and he had the bottom of his foot shot away. His brother was killed there a year later.

I picked-up a 5.45X39 CUR 2 that had been de-banned a couple of weeks ago.
