For the good of the country (and the GOP), we need more of this.

More of Crazy Donald's retribution against anyone in the party who has the audacity to publicly rebuke him? Certainly not.

More Repubs, whether they be in Congress, the media, local politics.....whatever........who take a principled stand against the immoral, amoral, corrupt, and incompetent reign of terror currently being inflicted by the Orange Fraud. The country is better off if we have the other major political party grounded in rational, fact based thinking with a focus on making the US better. A better place to live, a better partner with our allies, and a more sound opponent to our enemies. That means we must be fiscally responsible, environmentally proactive, and set an example of moral and democratic leadership the world can follow. Not have a leader who despots around the world can rely on for support.

But Repubs like Murkowski have not been speaking up to add their voices to those like Gen. Mattis' (thank you general) because of an obvious reason. Individual 1 is still popular with the base of the party. Meaning elected Repub officials are putting their personal political fortunes above what is best for the US. And clearly, now more than ever before, what's best is to rid ourselves of this unfit, unqualified, man who conned his way in to the WH.

So it's time for those people to put personal ambitions aside. It's time for them to do the right thing and condemn this abomination of a man when condemnation is called for. It's time for more Repubs to stop being silent or cowed or cowardly and say publicly what they think privately. That Trump is a danger to this nation and has not earned the right to lead it for another 4 years.

Agree. But there is a long history behind Trump's rise. For the reader and history buff check out these books.

"What is patriotism? Let us begin with what patriotism is not. It is not patriotic to dodge the draft and to mock war heroes and their families. It is not patriotic to discriminate against active-duty members of the armed forces in one's companies, or to campaign to keep disabled veterans away from one's property. It is not patriotic to compare one's search for sexual partners in New York with the military service in Vietnam that one has dodged. It is not patriotic to avoid paying taxes, especially when American working families do pay. It is not patriotic to ask those working, taxpaying American families to finance one's own presidential campaign, and then to spend their contributions in one's own companies. It is not patriotic to admire foreign dictators. It is not patriotic to cultivate a relationship with Muammar Gaddafi; or to say that Bashar al-Assad and Vladimir Putin are superior leaders. It is not patriotic to call upon Russia to intervene in an American presidential election. It is not patriotic to cite Russian propaganda at rallies." Timothy Snyder

gee, elt me guess ... Democrats and their entire Party never do any of that stuff ...lol lol lol and pigs fly. See, in order to sell that pile of bullshit, you first have to get rid of all the evidence to the contrary in order to sell it to sane people.

But, yes, it's fine to peddle it to the halfwits who make up the Democrats' base. Did lil Timmy Snyder cheer Obama handing over billions to the Iranian terrorist regime? Oh wait, he's a Salon hack; he either completely ignored that big donation to Obama's favorite Muslims, or he supported it but tried playing silly semantics to pretend he didn't. Any bets?

"Snyder is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations ...."

Ah, he's a 'member of 'The Council On Foreign Relations', i.e. a paid for Red Chinese shill, loves labor racketeering. Never mind, no need to read further. Another Commie 'Free Trader'.

Thank you for the referrals to those books and for the keen observation of the many examples when, given a choice, Trump took the unpatriotic route.

You may also enjoy reading this.

Democrats and their entire Party never do any of that stuff
Could you provide some examples of Dems, who dodged the draft, and then mocked someone like John McCain? Or Humayun Kahn's parents.

How do you like the way PROGS rip everything apart, they're DIRECTLY responsible for all the mess and what do they do?

Of course it's to be expected, they project on Trump.

I've watched years of you commie scum calling vets 'baby killers' and all kinds of vile names for decades, dumbass. You want to sell Democrats and leftists as 'patriots' and Americans you will just have to kill off three generations and conpleltely scrub all media of some 60 years of your dope addled commie antics, is all. You will of course do that if you win in November, your Red Chinese heroes have shown you how.

“I thought General Mattis’ words were true, and honest, and necessary, and overdue,” Murkowski told reporters after Mattis wrote that Trump was threatening the Constitution and trying to pit Americans against each other. When asked whether she could still support Trump, Murkowski said she was “struggling with it.”

Trump responded as he typically does: with a Twitter thread.
“Few people know where they’ll be in two years from now, but I do, in the Great State of Alaska (which I love) campaigning against Senator Lisa Murkowski,” Trump wrote, noting that Murkowski voted against the GOP efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act and opposed Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court."
.................................................................................................
The message. Dissent from the monolithic Trumpian message all Repubs must adhere to means you will be drummed out of the party. Criticism will not be tolerated.

Yes, but idiots keep thinking they can have serious conversations with the deviants and sociopaths anyway. They should just be mocked and abused.

Trump responds that she needs to be replaced by somebody "good or bad". Yet again it's all about him as he puts himself ahead of the country. We've got a dolt in the White House that needs replaced by an adult.

All true. But the larger point is not just that Trumpery is a destructive force. It's that informed debate, challenging authority, forcing those in power to defend their positions on their merits, makes us stronger. The Bigot-in-Chief thinks those things make us weaker. They don't. But they make him weaker. So he seeks to completely stifle opposing points of view.

Again, we need more of this.

"Former White House chief of staff John Kelly threw his support behind fellow Trump administration alum Jim Mattis as he takes heat from the President for decrying the President’s “abuse of executive authority” in a scathing statement.

Shortly after Mattis’ statement criticizing the President’s use of militaristic force ahead his surprise photo-op in front of St. John’s Episcopal Church was published Wednesday evening, Trump tweeted that “probably the only thing Barack Obama & I have in common is that we both had the honor of firing Jim Mattis, the world’s most overrated General.”
