Obama has made yet another decision in keeping with Bush policy. Another instance of following the footprints left in the sand. "Change you can believe in" indicated that a new set of footprints would be seen.....

The Obama administration yesterday appealed a judge's decision granting three detainees at a U.S. military prison in Afghanistan the right to challenge their detention in U.S. courts, arguing partly that compliance would inhibit the future capture of Pakistani citizens for detention by U.S. forces...

Things are never as easy to UN do once in place...and issues are always more complex than they appear...

From the WP article...

The department argued in its appeal that the consequences of immediate compliance would be severe. If foreigners brought to Bagram could legally challenge their incarceration, "the military would be unable to move non-Afghan citizens captured across the border in Pakistan" into the prison for "security or centralized intelligence gathering" without having to defend the transfers in court, it said.

Holding such proceedings would force the military to reveal details about the "the place of capture" and the "identity of U.S. or foreign forces or entities" that conducted the operation, the appeal said. It added that keeping records on such matters and litigating the cases would divert U.S. forces from their counterterrorism missions.

Yes.... It's much more complex than running around on the campaign trail declaring the John McCain would carry out a Bush third term....

Using the words of Robert Kennedy, "past error is no excuse for its own perpetuation," Obama claimed that McCain has refused "to learn from the failures of the Bush years."

Then again, maybe everything Bush did WASN'T a failure....

for BOTH candidates...

And some people refuse to learn form the articles THEY post....

There are only certain people who put me on ignore.

Those people like to ignore facts that are uncomfortable for their mindcement.

I think this is a very bad sign from Obama and that he is compromising our coutnry by accepting this failed commitment to our true values.

Some people are loathe to criticize the ever so complex decisioins now that the complex decisions are not Bush's to make.... Not to mention, lack the courage to leave the truths that others post untouched....

Horrors! The president changed his opinion based upon the facts, and he agrees with the former president! OMG how could this happen?
I am not a big fan of Obama, but this is good news. A leader that is willing to consider the facts, and change his mind based on those facts. That type of behavior is an indication of intelligence.
I would guess that means the feeble minded partisans will hate it.

Actually, what it means is that Obama WAS agreeing with Bush PRIOR to the CHANGE that was promised, but the "feeble minded partisans" hated to hear THAT, just as they hate to hear that there's not much CHANGE (as predicted).

To date I see no substantial change between Bush and Obama. Nothing has changed
