Football concussions: An insane idea

This one has been rattling around in my little brain for a while, and I thought I'd give it some air.

Scientists and doctors and experts keep trying to come up with better and better protection from blows to the head in the NFL. More padding, better padding, whatever.

What if they're going in the wrong direction? What if players had far LESS protection, requiring them to play the game less violently, less with their heads?

Just wondering.

Why?

Athletic, angry, motivated 300-pound monsters sprinting head first into each other with absolutely no regard for their bodies or their future?

Why wouldn't EVERYONE want to do that???
