Sardines. I read an artixle about tinned sardines and started thinking about it. Ive alwaus avoided them. Oily little fish with the bones still in them. Never fancied them. But I might be persuaded.

Bagels is another one. They just havent been part of my culture. They look like a bread roll with a hole in the middle. I cant see the attraction but im willing to try if its worth my while.

What things have you missed that you might like to try ?

/----/ I like sardines. They don't have the mercury that tuna has, for one thing. And a can usually satisfies me for a snack.
Unless you're getting a bagel from NYC, don't waste your time. Most are just white bread made to look like a bagel.

Wow! Bagels have something so different from other bread rolls. They are boiled before they are baked and have a wonderful chewiness that nothing else can match. Kind of like big pretzels. Both are impossible to beat,

The one thing I could never bring myself to eat is lutefisk, which I saw a lot of, being born and raised in very Scandinavian southeastern South Dakota.

/----/ It's the minerals in NYC water that make the pizza and bagels different from anywhere else. Bagel makers moved down south and opened shop only to learn the water makes terrible bagels - like store-bought or frozen ones. So, they have Brooklyn water bottled and shipped to them. And it works.
Another bagel shop on Long Island prepares the bagels and ships the dough unbaked to stores around the country. All they have to do is bake them, and you get a NYC bagel.

We ate A&S bagels for 45 years.

Ive looked up lutefisk. It sounds like a hell of a lot of work to prepare. I dont think we can buy it already prepared over here.

The company pushing them over here is called New York Bakery but I suspect they arent from New York. They offer 4 varieties.

/----/ A pizzeria in North Carolina was named NY Pizza. They served slices of white bread with slices of cheddar cheese and ketchup. toasted. The local didn't know any better.

There are plenty of foods that I have never tried, but there are some that I have tried that I may never eat again. Cheesecake is the newest thing on the list. Yuck!

God bless you always!!!

The expression, "acquired taste" is one that bears some thought. An acquired taste is something that is predictably awful when first experienced, but if you keep at it, you learn to enjoy it.

That is what smoking was to me. Everyone in my household (9 people) smoked except me and grandma. I tried it a couple times, thought it was awful and left it at that.

Same with wine. Some wine is as sweet as grape juice, and if prompted I'll have a glass of it. Otherwise, it tastes like liquid dust. No thanks.

When I was about 8 one of the big kids let me have a drag of her cigarette. I nearly coughed my dinner up and never touched another one. Saved me thousands.

I often forget how backwards and provincial you people are.

What a sad life.

Cilantro is like that for me. I hate it, but I am learning what foods it's essential in, and learning to tolerate it.
