This is horrible news. We are starving here guys. Between the civil liberty abuses, lack of accountability and starvation, we are in trouble. Please, help us.

www.cbc.ca · news · canadaCanada is the only G7 country without a national school food ...

Oct 2, 2023 · Canada is the only country in the G7 that doesn't have a national school food program or national standards, according to the Breakfast Club of Canada. That means that.........

Canada is moving toward a national school food program that will provide meals to more children, but it is not currently the case that all Canadian school children receive free lunch:

National School Food Program
In April 2024, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced a $1 billion investment over five years to create a national school food program. The program aims to provide meals to an additional 400,000 children each year, and will also support existing provincial and territorial programs. The program will also help families in need by saving the average participating family with two children up to $800 a year in grocery costs.

Looks like all your prog policies are coming to fruition Shocked One.....~S~

I was struggling myself but able to give a little bit to the Ontario Food Bank charity when I could. Just trying to do my small part. I can't anymore and it bothers me deeply, almost brings me to tears to think about the families and people going hungry be they man, woman or child.

This shouldn't be happening in a wealthy country and it is primarily the cost of housing and rent. We have decimated our Middle Class and driving people to Amazon and Walmart alone since we don't have disposal income due to housing costs.

It's horrific and won't slow down any time soon.

It is all Biden's fault

You're preachin' to the choir Shocked one

Rural America is lousy with poverty, and all the perks that go with it

Farms and farmers provide a level of self sustainability , i guess they call us preppers now......

What's yer address and I'll send you some canned tuna?

I wonder...does the old Economics axiom have any applicability to this situation? Behavior which is subsidized will increase; behavior which is punished will decrease, regardless of anything else. If you make "free" food available, more and more people will access it, regardless of their actual level of need. It may not have anything to do with actual need; it's just people taking advantage of what is out there for them.

As for school food programs, does the Canadian "constitution" (or whatever you have) impose the obligation on taxpayers to provide food to students? Isn't that the obligation of parents?

I wonder what my buddy Pierre P says on the subject.

If you can hang on, I'd like to send you a 198 pound vegetable in about three months.

Farmers get most of their food from the supermarkets like everyone else.

Of course you're running out of food...it's free. But I'll bet the store shelves are filled with food. Close the free food banks and people will actually have to pay for their food. It will certainly help the economy.

More food banks equals more freeloaders.

A natural result of "the progress of man".

We often have tv news reports from our food banks, which also are in crisis mode. I have yet to see a food bank worker who wasn't grossly overweight. Maybe if the staff would stop pigging out on the donated food there would be more for the po' folks.

Why do some of you guys sound as if you hate human beings?

Do you think it was the average citizen who was responsible for the government spending which lead to insane inflation?

How should anyone 'feel' when ruled by government that addresses the symptoms vs. addressing the disease they've created ,and further have constituents taking advantage of it Shocked one?

This isn't political. People are starving and rely on Food Banks to survive. This isn't the time to say "oh well, government screwed you", this is the time to show some sympathy.

The biggest problem in Canada is the housing costs. It's been worse the last 10 years but it has always been an excessive cost relative to Canadians income and wealth. I've always believed that if a nation can keep their housing costs low, their economies will prosper due to immense wealth in disposal income.

Disposable income keeps every company from Amazon to the Mom and Pop job in business.
