No one is a felon who enters illegally for the first time coming here, that is a civil offense or misdemeanor, depending on the circumstances.
Illegal entry is not a felony unless they were charged with a misdemeanor and deported, and then caught RE-ENTERING, then they can be charged with a felony....and tried in court for it with a conviction, makes them a criminal felon.
We, the USA, let the asylum seekers in, for a court to determine their status, and that means
temporarily, until their court date and ruling, they are here legally awaiting the court ruling. Our govt allowed them in, for this...they could have been turned away, and millions were turned away during Biden admin....the border was not an open border to all, as claimed by Trumpers.
Whether you like Biden's border strategy or priorities or liberal considerations or not, does not matter...our govt, let them in...they didn't break in, they turned themselves in, to border agents, to seek asylum from the USA. They may or may not get such from the court.
Our problems come from not funding and increasing immigration judges to keep up with what was happening on the ground, which is delaying court dates for their hearings on acceptance or deportation....something that should be a decision made within 30 days by an immigration judge is backlogged to years which is absolutely disgraceful and incompetent...
this gave the asylum seekers time... Time for them to disappear, or get married, have kids, get promoted at jobs, buy houses, and meld in to communities, when in the end...they may not qualify for the asylum by a judge....sheesh!

But do not agree that these people here that WE LET IN are criminals. I don't hate them. I would try too, to seek asylum in the USA, if I were in their shoes...is how I view it...it's my opinion on the subject, which simply differs with yours Ed.
