Its a lie, fake news. The republican ethics committee opened their investigation in to Gaetz in January 2023 when they took the majority in the House, and have been silently investigating certain ethics complaints filed. The ethics committee is also not controlled by McCarthy, other than McCarthy picking the committee members, from what I understand....

McCarthy nor anyone reopened or started a new investigation because of Matt Gaetz's performance in the hearing....it's been active since January.

No one from the Ethics committee leaked this to the press.

People being interviewed by the Ethics committee over the past 3 weeks, have told the press about themselves being questioned about Gaetz by the House Ethics Committee
