Feds reveal secret list of taxpayer-funded ‘boondoggle’ transportation projects

31 Jul 2025 ~~ By Stephan Dinan

The Department of Transportation has released a long-secret list of its most overdue and over-budget projects, revealing billions of dollars in taxpayer money committed to projects that can’t seem to get across the finish line.
The list includes an interstate redesign in Columbus, Ohio, which is running nearly 20 years behind schedule and double the initial cost, and California’s much-maligned high-speed rail, whose costs have tripled.
Maryland’s Purple Line light rail also made the list, at double the initial cost and at least six years behind schedule.
Those and the other projects, 15 in total, account for more than $12 billion in federal taxpayer money committed to assist state and local officials who have struggled to complete the airport, roadway and railway improvements.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy provided the list to Congress, and Sen. Joni Ernst, Iowa Republican, made it public Wednesday. She said she wants to expose some of the biggest black eyes for the central planners in government.
“Going a billion dollars over budget isn’t a rounding error; it’s a financial train wreck. Likewise, being five years behind schedule isn’t just losing track of time; it’s a derailment,” said Ms. Ernst, who wrote the law requiring the reports.
The first report was due in 2022. The Biden administration never delivered.

Commentary:
With out massive borrowing from federal government we’d be broke the corruption especially from state needs to be investigated . When projects go years over deadline and billions over budget whos responsibility is it to investigate these blatant fraudulent practices someone needs to be held accountable for disgraceful abuse of taxpayers dollars.
Government malfeasance knows no boundaries. Apparently nobody pays any attention to them and if they do just walks away.
Newsom's "Train to No Where" in California is a typical example.
When the Bolder Dam was being built the contractor had a dead line and if he got done earlier he go a bonus! How they have good planning by people have no idea in what they are doing. Everything is on a cost plus. There is so much waste. But they are praised that they have created jobs. Who I cares in how much it cost. Look at Colleges and University, what are they producing. They are on welfare and the Students pay the penalty. If I had the same plan as this it would be great. However, I have companies and government that would be after me if I operated this way.
Meanwhile, do-gooders at the EPA will demands years of paperwork for approval, while committing slipshod scandals like the Gold King mine disaster polluting and poisoning hundreds of miles of water through Indian reservations and city water supplies.

Why does the WH need a ballroom?
