Federal officials have launched a criminal investigation of St. Tammany Parish District Attorney Walter Reed and his son, Steven Reed, according to a grand jury subpoena obtained by NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune and WVUE Fox 8 News.
The Castine Center, a Mandeville venue where Reed held a Sept. 22, 2012, fundraiser, was subpoenaed last month to provide records related to Walter and Steven Reed dating back to January 2008, the document shows.
That includes the 2012 fundraiser, for which Reed's campaign paid Steven Reed $29,400 to provide what it called "catering."
The subpoena was issued amid revelations by the news organizations that records from the Castine Center showed no evidence that Steven Reed worked at his father's fundraiser, or what he did to earn the money. Steven Reed and his company, Liquid Bread, were not mentioned in 63 pages of detailed event records from the Mandeville venue.
