Federal Judge Blocks Obama Drilling Moratorium

This is something they were already given an extended deadline to correct and they did not. Again, Jindall shows a lack of leadership and a tendency to whine.

However, the Interior Department said the order was issued because the state was pumping sand from a sensitive section of the island chain and had failed to meet an extended deadline to install pipe that would tap sand from a less-endangered area.

The two Louisiana officials argue dredging should continue.
The dredging area includes the Chandeleurs and other barrier islands that are sensitive nesting grounds for species such as the brown pelican, which has been hit hard by oil washing up from the BP well 40 miles southeast of the mouth of the river.

Interior Assistant Secretary Tom Strickland said the berms are important in protecting marshes and wildlife. "But the berms have to be built right so they don't compromise the barrier islands, which serve as a first line of defense against storm surges and hurricanes," he said.

What Jindall is doing is destroying barrier islands to accomplish something that may not even work...and in the process destroying an actual barrier to hurricanes and storm surges.

Sounds mildly retarded.

In all fairness Ravi, it sounds like the Berms would become the front line in hurricane protection as well, helping preserve the barrier islands. If there is a time problem with installing pipes to pump sand from less critical areas, does it make more sense to aid in the construction, or shut everything down and relocate? What is the definition of the agency working with the State Project, setting mandates, or participating in the construction??? It seems that the Fed has had control issues for far too long.

Everyone's 'gun-decking' it down there. The point is that bureaucrats 1500 miles away are getting in the way again.

I'm thinking the oil will, "compromise the barrier islands". That is a certainty. Sounds like some federal supervisors are getting their toes stepped on. They would rather destroy the islands than lose their authority. Fire them.

Right, because destroying the barrier islands and losing the storm surge protection to the mainland is an excellent idea. :cuckoo:

Jindall made no effort to meet the first deadline or the second deadline. He planned poorly. He should be impeached.

If we're going to start impeaching for reaction to the oil spill... P-BO first.

Except YOUR article says this:

He said it would take about 5 days to build the pipeline federal authorities want to access the new dredging site. "It took so long to approve this project. We don't want to be tied up in more red tape," he said.

Jindal, a frequent critic of the BP and federal responses to the spill, has proposed building massive berms to intercept the oil before it gets to the coast. The plan has received partial approval from the corps. BP has agreed to pay $360 million for the project.

The Army Corps of Engineers oversees the permitting process. A corps spokesman says the permit has not been suspended.

The berm project has drawn criticism from some coastal scientists who fear it will change tidal patterns and could lead to more long-term erosion of the islands.

Your statement that this activity will be , "...destroying the barrier islands and losing the storm surge protection to the mainland...." is not confirmed. Meanwhile, the damage by oil is occuring in that location.

Obama should be impeached??? You might be over reacting Ravi.

5 days to construct the pipe line. 7 days to relocate the dredge. is that logical too you?

What were the delays caused by Ravi? Without knowing, why are you so quick to condemn?

Is it easier to mandate than comply? Was it Jindall standing in the way, or possibly unrealistic expectation or reality? Do you think it is a Jindall plot to make Obama look bad? I think Obama does not need anybody's help to do that.

The new construction would further protect them, becoming the first line of defense.

It's been a plan in Louisiana for a long time, we've been begging for the money to do it. I heard some libtard on Maddow tossing it out while saying he didn't really read up on it and know much about it.

LSU likes it big time

I'm confused, is this "Simon Says" or "Musical Chairs"????? Maybe "Spin The Bottle"???

They should be dredging where ever they need to. The beach and marshland and the environmentwould suffer lots less with dredging than with oil.

Common sense. OH wait. I forgot. The idiots in charge ain't got any. Jeeze.

Wetlands are already ruined...they waited too long to try to prevent that...so there's not alot of urgency to save LA anymore...they are now concerned with trying to keep it off of the FL coast. Sadly, I'm afraid it's still too late.

wetland will be restored by river diversion in the Obama pay's billions to La to get reelected plan.

Strickland said the state originally agreed to take sand from an area in the northern Chandeleurs, but had been been pumping from a more sensitive area in the middle part of the chain. He said earlier this month the state asked for a week's extension on its agreement to run pipe to the more desired area but did not meet the deadline. "All we are trying to do is hold them to their own agreement," Strickland said.

Bobby can't do anything right. He had an entire extra week to run a pipe that should have only taken him five days. Prolly back in the office sending out whining press releases and couldn't be bothered.

Moving on to another argument now that your first line of attack failed. Hold them to their own agreement? Perhaps conditions or circumstances have changed and warrant the current actions. They are more than a little busy in the governor's office. The federal is busy trying to destroy the oil industry in LA, or hadn't you heard?

I haven't changed my argument. Jindall is once again blaming someone else for his own ineptitude.

News just breaking that the judge in Louisiana has blocked Obama's drilling ban. I'll post a link when more comes out

Will BO loose his cool again after hearing this?

This 6 month thing was stupid.

Yes, a good check of Safety Procedures was in order, but 6 months? that was crazy.

.

Well, he can always go play a round of golf to calm himself down. In fact, I'm all for building him a golf course in the middle of the dessert so he can spend the rest of his days during his presidency playing golf. Just to keep him out of the way.
