Federal agencies have spent $4.6 Billion on furniture since 2021, despite most employees working from home.

Which is why we are reducing the workforce to less than 1 million. No need to buy furniture for the next 10 decades.

A 1 million federal force of civilians and active duty military is a pipe dream.

(Remember the OP talked about Federal agencies, which includes DOD.)

Not military. Just civilian.

Were you aware that if the Veterans Administration were to be pitted against the US Army on a field of battle, the VA would outnumber the Army by 20,000 more people?

Go look it up.

Will Trump stop the buying of furniture? Probably not.

Trump just says "Vote me, I'll change things" and then changes things but not for the better.

What he's doing is making them come back to their offices and actually use the furniture.

Considering that the average length of service in the Army is 6.7 years yet a person is a veteran for the rest of their lives - I'm not surprised.

My wife is a disabled Vet, she was on Active Duty for 14 years. She's been a disabled Vet for 33. I'm a Navy retiree, I was on Active Duty for 20 years and been a retire for 27.

#1 I didn't imply that eveqry person received furniture. I put the scary number in context as a function of duration (5 years) and number of people 3,720,000 that the budget has to support.

But you used that low number per person to justify the spending, so yes, you did imply that every person benefitted.

I guess you think that justifies the overbloat. Well, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

No, I used the numbers to provide CONTEXT, not justification.

Justification is based on need and is part of procurement. Context is taking what was intended to be a scary number and show that - well - it was a number used to scare those that don't think through a problem and just regurgitate what they are told.

You're a DBA, I'm and HRIS - so we are both in the data world. Scary large number always need to be based on context to understand what they mean.

The Imperial city is filled with splendor as the urban areas rot and the rust belt's closed factories fall apart.
This is why Trump was elected again.

The situation was begun by Trump during the pandemic.

Well, yeah.

But when the VA’s infantry called the VA artillery for emergency suppression fire, they’d say, “your request is in the system. Contact us if you don’t hear back in 90 days.”

I don't justify any over bloat. The number of position should be defined by the work to be done. That is Congresses job as part of the budgetary process and funding.

If you think the Federal workforce (even just the civilian) is going cut by over half - well you are welcome to that opinion. But it ain't happn'n.

And ya wanna bet all these cuts that the current administration and DOGE are doing will be short lived?

LOL Okay, that was good.

We'll see, won't we?

Yes sir.

Just wondering, do you really think the terminations by EO are permeant?

WW
No, but I'm hopeful that by the time Vance leaves office in 2036, the matter will have resolved itself.

Here's an example of what they spent the money on:

They may be taking some of this furniture home, as another poster suggested. But having worked around federal employees for several years well before the COVID stay home instead of go to work fad, they loved to get new furniture. At least the bosses did. The low-level workers usually complained since, in those days, sturdy wooden desks were being replaced with what they called "Barbie furniture." that was less comfortable to work on and obviouly designed not to last.

Why does a picnic table need to be solar powered?

I certainly hope so.

I just can’t imagine that some can’t see the inefficiency and bloat in government. The only people that may not see it are those that have not worked in the private the sector and have no basis for comparison.

$4.6 Billion that's a scary number.

Now lets put it in context.

Thats about $1 Billion a year over the 5 year period.

So 2.4 Million Civilian Employees + 1.32 Million Active Duty Military (Yes, DOD is a Federal agency) = 3,720,000 employees.

1,000,000,000 / 3,720,000 = $268.82 per person.

A 238k dollar picnic table is absurd, solar or not. But hey, Democrats are telling us that the federal government is suddenly efficient.

It was for 30 metal outdoor picnic tables The solar is for lighting in the umbrella for night
