Father and Daughter Nearly Die From Being Struck By Lightning

Back in 1976, I was on a Boy Scout camping trip at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimmaron, New Mexico. It was a ten day backpacking trip.

It rained often there, and that rain was often accompanied by thunder and lightning. When that would happen we would stack our backpacks (with their aluminum frames) into a mound and move to low ground. One member of our squad; last name was Gillespie, was a bit slow putting his backpack on the mound and, when he did, he was hit by lightning.

He did not fare as well as those in the OP's story. We're pretty sure he was dead before he hit the ground...

On July 2nd it will be 20 years since my lightning experience. My 20th birthday was two days earlier. My mom and me were in our car coming back from a trip to Knoxville when our car was hit by lightning while we were in it. The car had to be replaced, but we lived which of course is what matters most. We were told that if the lightning had hit the gas tank, my mom and me wouldn't be here now.

God bless you and my mom and that girl and her dad always!!!
