It's not "inscripted", it's "conscripted". And yeah, both sides paid, but in the South, most were volunteers, as were many in the North.

I don't suppose you stopped to think they volunteered because it was their homes under attack.

"Many" in the North were "conscripted"- it doesn't matter their point of origin, the point is they were forced to serve in an unjust war to appease those in the North who couldn't compete economically- period. Slavery was an after thought made a high light by those who supported "conscription" which is NO different than slavery save for the word.
