Given dead guy's advance on the shooter I'm not sure that was so.....Looked like he was a continued threat to me.

It looks like the guy that was blocking him was all that prevented him from reengaging giving the shooter time to get his gat out and do the needful.

Sure, I guess he could have beat feet but perhaps he was in no condition to do so given the head shot he took.

See? You could be easily nullified to justify also, as I would.

I'm mildly surprised at the position you're taking.

Why? Have I ever struck you as a pacifist, or one unfamiliar with violence? I'm not. Last time I was attacked without provocation, it was two on one, but being tipped it was about to happen, I planned to let the attack take place, kill the first attacker and deal with the second. I was lucky. He did not die, only suffering a serious concussion, a forearm and wrist broken in three places compound fracture with bones sticking through the skin with significant bloodless, with I treated to stop the bleeding onsite. His lost partner suddenly losing interest, never bothered me again. I never saw the lead assailant again, but know it was 3 days before he left the hospital. I do not accept victimhood well either, so I am understanding of others not willing to accept it.

Exactly.....and justifiable homicide in my opinion....he will need a good lawyer though....they will have to persuade the jury the guy was still in fear of his life....and that he was undoubtedly in shock and in such a state of mind justified to use deadly force.

Clearly not self-defense, as the assault was over. I doubt it being a murder charge and if there were people like me on the jury, I could easily be nullified to justification and voting "not guilty".

It would be tough. I consider myself a straight shooter and place a high value on ethics and fairness.
This case would push those values to the limit.
Like you, I would take no part in convicted this man and going to prison. I don't think I could do it.
But at the same time, we are a nation of laws. This isn't 1880s Wild West. You can't just shoot someone because they punched you.
But this is Chicago. You put a couple anti-gun nut liberals on that jury and they will fry him.

I think in front of a fair jury a good lawyer would have a chance to convince the jury that this was not murder....but a justified reaction by someone who after getting violently attacked (for no reason as far as we know) was in such a state of mind and shock that he reacted in a manner that was fitting to the nature of the attack that could have killed him....as we know many have been killed due to getting sucker punched by such assailants.

The law is about justice and should not be used to foster injustice....though that is exactly what we see so many times when the perp is a black guy....though I still do not know the race of the perp in this case.

If the perp is a white guy a lawyer would have a much easier time defending the shooter.

Anyhow this guy needs to get out of Chicago, get out of Illinois and go deep underground......though I do predict he will be apprehended quickly.
