We've tried the punitive measures. We lock up more people than Communist China, we have trigger happy cops armed like soldiers, we have 2 million people in jail, 7 million more on probation or parole, and maybe up to 70 million with a police record.

Maybe instead of doing all that, we should try addressing the underlying causes of crime - Poverty, Mental illness, addiction, racism, and gun proliferation.
