This can’t be true…can it?
Cleveland Browns are in a fascinating sports conundrum.

They are married to Watson for this year and the next 2 years, with 75 million in cap in both 2025 and 2026.

If they cut him, it’s a 175 million cap hit, So they can’t just cut and run.

They have to either keep trotting out the worst QBR rating in the league, or bench him and make him the most expensive backup in NFL history by probably 5 times over.

Management would have to admit they messed up, and it’s likely GM Andrew Betty would be the patsy/Oswald who would take the blame and get fired.

Management doesn’t want to take the blame, so they want to keep putting Watson out there and just let him fail, but they also know fans have intelligence and won’t accept it if he continues to play this bad, even if it’s not all his fault (the browns have the worst offensive line in the NFL)

as a browns fan, if we’re not going to make the playoffs, I am fascinated to see how far management will play this charade.. it’s like watching the media and Democrats tells us that Biden was totally fine mentally and a dynamo behind the scenes despite what all of our eyes and ears told us.

How long will the Browns management hang onto their horrible mistake? I’ll be tuning in to see

When he was traded for and signed, there were people who thought it was a good thing. Even with the massage issues. He has not shown any talent like he had with the Texans.

Since 2000, based on 798 teams (32 teams times number of games played, for a total of 798 teams) this 2024 Browns team ranks:

791st yds per play
786th yds/attempt
785th 3rd down conversions
771st Red Zone drives.

This is a historically bad team under Watson.

I think if they cut him post June 1st next year the cap hit is a bit more manageable. It's 92 million but at least they are done and can move on. They can do that rip the band aid off and be done with it or let that wound fester over the long term.
