PC Bullies Come After Stillwater’s Eskimo Joe’s
The intolerant purge that has taken out national products like Aunt Jemima and Eskimo Pie also works at the local level. The restaurant Eskimo Joe’s is a gameday tradition in the college town Stillwater, home of Oklahoma State University. Social justice warriors do not approve:
The mascot also has to go because according to the rules enforced by the thought police, human mascots can only be Caucasian, or else they are racist.
Sister establishment Mexico Joe’s also stands accused of noncompliance with liberal orthodoxy. Both are ordered to change their name and dump their mascot.
Counterpetitions have been started (here and here) so that people who like tradition and/or don’t like liberal bullies pushing everyone around can weigh in on behalf of the restaurants standing firm. Currently, almost nine times as many have signed the Change.org petition against the name change as have signed the one demanding it.
Big corporations only pay attention to petitions from leftists, but local businesses might care more about their customers than liberal “virtue” signaling.

According to the Change.org petition, the name Eskimo Joe’s has been “racially insensitive” ever since the business was established. It just took 45 years for people to notice.
