Cumulus Media, the second-largest broadcast company in the nation, is poised to drop Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity from its stations before the close of 2013, an industry source said.

The move would take the No. 1 and No. 2 talk show hosts off 40 channels in some of the nation’s biggest markets, Politico reported.

He continued, “And the reason, of course, is that Rush Limbaugh has scared away more sponsors than Lindsay Lohan did at Betty Ford.

Forty-eight of the top 50 advertisers exclude the Limbaugh show now from their radio ad buys.”

For Rush Limbaugh, The Damage Is Done

One week after it was first reported that talk radio giant Cumulus Media might cut ties with Rush Limbaugh and pull his show from 40 of its stations nationwide, the end result of the contractual showdown remains unclear. But we do know this: The damage has been done to Limbaugh and his reputation inside the world of AM radio as an untouchable star.

This has already been debunked. Limbaugh and Hannity are in contract negotiations and might move to Clear Channel for more money.

Yanno, this thread could be merged with the previous 27 threads on the same topic... down there in Media where it belongs...

Wrong. It's Cumulus that's mulling the drop, and they have been for months. Rash can make all the noises he wants about taking his ball and going home but there's a history that predates his pouting. Cumulus has its own roster of in-house talkers that it could use as replacements (notably Huckabee) -- if it doesn't abandon the talk focus and go into sports, which it's also been thinking about.

"might move to ClearChannel"?? No, radio doesn't work that way. ClearChannel is a multi-station owner; those individual stations write their own contracts; they don't program as a group.

See-- this is why opening another, and another, and yet another thread on the same story is not productive. The same lame myths have to be shot down all over again.

Yes indeed, advertisers buy ratings, and only ratings .... when 48 of the top 50 ad spenders ban Limbaugh, it's only for one reason - ratings ....

Only the 24/7 regulars would know that - look for this thread in Media then.

Remember when it was the end of right wing television when Sarah Palin was "fired" from Fox? That wasn't true either.

LOL. You cite them as the ‘the No. 1 and No. 2 talk show hosts’ and then claim that their ratings suck. Talk about cognitive dissonance.

By the way, what they peddle sells. Its that simple so taking them off the radio is rather meaningless. They will simply be replaced by the same bullshit as long as it sells. There is zero indication that is going to change anytime soon.
