The religious left is not new but is not well publicized.
Barak Obama came from a church of Black Liberation theology. Essentially they want to empower government to do God's work, unless it comes to things like abortion and gay marriage, etc. Then all of a sudden we need a separation of church and state.
The Founding Fathers came from a system where the state preached from the pulpit. This created a means of all sort of abuses via the state. Many abhorred such a system and is why people came to the US, so that they could have religious freedom.. This is why the Founding Fathers refused to endorse a state religion.
To sum up, politics is about men and money and power, but the religion of God is not. If you then try to make them one in the same, men will simply use clever ways to pursue their never ending drive for money in power in the name of God.
Constantine is a prime example. He adopted the fledgling religion of Christianity as his own, but did not become a Christian. He still worshiped the pagan gods, but saw adopting a religion that seemed to thrive as it was being brutally oppressed as a good political move, and it was. Then the world was subjected to the first evils of Christianity, such as the Inquisitions and Crusades, etc. In fact, the Jewish persecution lasted for centuries with the Holocaust being the climax of such oppression.
I am also reminded of scripture where Jesus was feeding the multitude with only a few loaves of bread and a few fish. The miracle everyone witnessed caused them to want to make Jesus their worldly king, but he rejected the invitation and escaped from them. The disciples were perplexed. Why would Jesus do such a thing? But we were later clued in as Jesus was confronted by Pilate as he said that his kingdom was not of this world, for if it were, his disciples would take up arms to free him.
Also note how the Hebrew people set up their government. Essentially, God gave them a few judges to keep the peace and that was it, but the people clamored for a human king. We see this in 1 Samuel 8 as the people were warned by God that if they continued to insist on a human king, they would be subjected to a myriad of abuses since man is only after money and power for himself, but the people would not listen. God then gave them Saul as we later watched the Hebrew nation circle the drain until they found themselves in the ovens of Nazi Germany.
And what was Nazi Germany like? You guessed it, a socialist utopia, unless you were Jewish. In fact, I wonder how many Jews voted for Hitler.
As I look at the welfare system in the US, something does not seem right. We have a system where people are now forced to give to government with the presumption that some of the money will make it into the hands of the needy, a big presumption to be sure. In fact, I once heard that only 9 cents on the dollar actually goes to those in need. So you have a whole group of people who were forced to give them money to help others, which then negates their gift of giving. In fact, finding ways of getting out of paying taxes becomes the virtue. We all do it. Then you also create another group of people who are giving charity from government. However, the money is not given in the name of God, and instead of being seen as a gift, it becomes an entitlement. No matter how much money is then given to them, it is never enough and they are never grateful for the gifts they receive.
Those who practice their faith are the backbone of giving in the US. In fact, statistics show that those who attend church regularly give far more of the money and time to helping the poor than those that don't. Meanwhile, those that don't practice their faith or have no faith sit back and whine about needing to elect people to force them to give more of their money and time to the poor.
Very odd indeed.
And lastly, the issue of immigration is not that we should not allow immigrants into the US, the issue is whether or not the US should have control over the immigration. Should the US allow everyone in, including those who murder, rape, and promote terrorism? No, they should not. The US should secure the border and allow the citizens of the US to vote for who should be let in, and not decided for them. If the border is not secured, then it matters little what the citizens and politicians want to allow in regarding immigration because the decision will be made for them.
