Duvall has passed

Great actor i feel i grew up with many of his films and saw them all, he was part of the golden age of film with many others in the 60s and beyond like Gene Hackman of the same era, RIP.

Absolutely one of my favorites.
A lesser known Comedy/Drama he starred in is Get Low - terrific movie, and he was great in it

Robert Duvall, an acclaimed and prolific actor celebrated for his complex, rugged roles in films like “The Godfather,” died on Sunday at age 95.

The Hollywood giant died peacefully in his Virginia home “surrounded by love and comfort,” his wife Luciana said in a statement released Monday.

His passion for his craft was matched only by his deep love for characters, a great meal, and holding court,” she wrote. “For each of his many roles, Bob gave everything to his characters and to the truth of the human spirit they represented. In doing so, he leaves something lasting and unforgettable to us all.”

Robert Duvall was one greatest actors ever to come out of Hollywood. Known his roles on The Godfather, The Great Santini and Tender Mercies. One of his first roles was in To Kill A Mocking Bird, he play Boo Radley at the end of that movie.

Good actor but not a big fan of Trump. He was more of a GW/Romney Republican.

Still, he was a republican and even worked at a GOP convention back in 2008 I think.

A helluva sight better than Marxists like Kammy Harris.

Phenomenon, John Q, and Gone In 60 Seconds are the films of his that I have seen.

God bless you and his family always!!!

Holly

P.S. Actually, one other film of his that I have seen is the Sling Blade film, but he was only shown one time in it. He plays the father of the lead character in that film if you haven't seen it before. His character, in my opinion, only deserved a good kicking where it counts, but Mr. Duvall played the character well. To me, that whole film for the most part is sad. There is only one time or two where you may actually smile.

Duval was one of my favorite actors.

As was mine. This is crazy, the past few weeks they aired one of my favorite films with him in it, one of my favorite westerns ever, and they just re-aired it again just last week I think and I couldn't help but watch most of it again, and I got a premonition that he was going to die.

Duvall was in both of my two favorite westerns ever,

OPEN RANGE (2003) with Kevin Cosner where he played Boss Spearman (best live gun fight of any movie ever). As well as having done another movie I love the same year SECONDHAND LIONS,

As well as having played Ned Pepper in the original 1969 True Grit with John Wayne, my other favorite western. While maybe his appearance as Tom Hagan in the Godfather is what won him most critical acclaim for his career, it wasn't his best role.

But what made me a lifetime fan of Robert Duvall was the FIRST thing I ever saw him in, where he played Adam Ballard in 1964's episode of The Outer Limits in their only 2-part episode.

If you like Duvall and Science-Fiction, you owe it to yourself to watch that show. It is one of the most gripping sci-fi stories of all time right up there with City On The Edge of Forever. And Duvall totally sells it.

'The Inheritors' can be seen any time for free on Tubi, The Outer Limits, The Inheritors, 2 parts, towards the end of the 2nd season. I promise that story will have you right on the edge of your seat.

Oddly, I seem to remember someone here a few years back mentioning he actually knew and met Bob Duvall once at some family party, he was a distant relative, and he was a quiet man, not much for talk or show, kind of stuck to himself.

Maybe he will join this thread.

Robert Duvall was one of the last, truly great actors left in Hollywood. Not many more still come to mind except very few like Jack Nicholson, Robert DiNiro, and very few others.

I've met him a few times at local events and he seemed to be a good man. RIP

He lived in the next county over from me. I used to see him quite often at a semi-local eatery. Everyone there seemed to have the good manners to let the man eat in peace.

Local article:

Tomorrow is a 1972 American drama film directed by Joseph Anthony and starring Robert Duvall and Olga Bellin. The screenplay was written by Horton Foote, adapted from a play he wrote for Playhouse 90 that was itself based on a 1940 short story by William Faulkner in the short story collection Knight's Gambit.[1] The PG-rated film was filmed in the Mississippi counties of Alcorn and Itawamba. Although released in 1972, it saw limited runs in the U.S. until re-released about ten years later. Duvall has called the film one of his personal favorites.[2]

I’ll remember him as Gus McRae and a legendary, one of a kind actor. I remember about 10-15 years ago he was living in some South American country with a much younger, beautiful wife.

RIP
