I recall learning about the dopamine system while doing my degree, it made.me realize why the term for narcotics used to be "dope". Rats woukd rather stimulate that part of their brain than eat, they literally starve themselves to death in ordee to push a button that stimulated that part of the brain. It was a fascinating and frightening realization when I read of it.
