Strange when you think about it. Trump was handed a healthy and growing economy in 2017, and he made no serious policy changes to Obama’s policies.

Eventually, he started taking credit for doing nothing.

Had he done so this time, he’d be having a much better time than he is.

My impression is that Trump is simply doing what he does -- trying to play the brilliant strongman while being neither -- and that people like Howard Lutnick & Scott Bessent are the ideologues who are pushing him on this stuff. Have you heard Lutnick speak? All hyperbole and flash and superlatives, just like Trump. They're sympatico.

I think they're playing an 18-month game: They know damn well that what they're doing is going to create a fuckin' earthquake, but they're betting that we'll see the light at the end of the tunnel by the time the mid-terms ramp up. That's a hell of a lot of confidence, but they figure they have all the answers.

And who knows, it could work. Maybe they're right. But they're really playing with fire here, and their caveman methods only make it more chaotic and volatile. There's not much in the way of comparable historic data to reference here.
