Here is the deal, hockey is so popular here, perhaps more than anything even religion; that this is probably accurate. It doesn't matter who would be campaigning against him, he could even run an as Independent and have a real chance of winning. His influence has waned significantly though over the years, so he might not have as clear a path as he would like. The late 80s early 90s would have been a good time for this.

Also, he wouldn't be immune to opposition research which might expose more than he'd like after a life of generally squeaky clean existence (as an example, Ovechkin has been very close to Putin, even campaigning for him for instance and Gretzky has defended Ovi while praising the fact that Russian team have been blocked from International competition),

His support for Patrick Brown in 2015 was awful though also. Brown is horrible and mocked mightily across party lines in Canada. Brampton is a complete sh__hole thanks to the leadership that city has had for decades.

You have to give it to Trump, he is always yanking peoples chain.

U.S. president-elect Donald Trump says he told Canadian hockey legend Wayne Gretzky during a Christmas Day visit that he should run for prime minister of Canada.
"I just left Wayne Gretzky, 'The Great One' as he is known in ice-hockey circles," Trump posted on his Truth Social platform Wednesday afternoon.

"I said, 'Wayne, why don't you run for prime minister of Canada, soon to be known as the governor of Canada — you would win easily, you wouldn't even have to campaign.' He had no interest," Trump wrote.

His comment about being governor of Canada refers to Trump repeatedly suggesting the country become a U.S. state, which Ottawa insists is a joke.

Trump added that it would be "fun to watch" if Canadians launched a movement to get the retired hockey player to seek office.
The Canadian Press has tried to contact Gretzky through his agents.

Experts have said that Ottawa is rightfully focused on the prospect of damaging tariffs under the looming Trump presidency instead of pushing back on rhetoric about annexing or purchasing Canada.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau leads a minority government that could be toppled by a confidence vote next year, following the surprise resignation of finance minister Chrystia Freeland.

Gretzky has previously backed Conservative politicians, such as former Ontario Progressive Conservative leader Patrick Brown during his run for the party leadership.

During the 2015 federal election, Conservative leader Stephen Harper interviewed Gretzky in front of hundreds of supporters as the Tories unsuccessfully sought re-election.

At the event, Gretzky told Harper he thought he had been an "unreal prime minister" who had been "wonderful to the whole country."
Gretzky later said he always follows a prime minister’s request, regardless of political stripe, noting he had once hosted a lunch for former Liberal prime minister Pierre Trudeau.

Couldn't possibly be worse than Trudeau...

You wanna bet? lol.

You don't know just how bad politicians are here, including and often especially those who say they are "conservative".

Well, some media outlets continue to insist W was a "conservative" .... but cannot ID one single thing he did in office that was...

So, sorry. Sometimes I think great athletes can be great political leaders. Don't know what goes on between Wayne's ears, but it sure was fun to watch him handle the puck...

Well, you might like these politicians as conservative, I don't know. We don't have to agree on everything or anything so I'm not judging just providing a perspective. They love big policing. The less accountability and transparency the better. The bigger their budgets and salaries the better. Destroying our nation.

For me, guys like Rand Paul and even Marco Rubio are conservatives. More libertarian leaning and anti-communist in their ideology. The famous quote of Reagan saying that libertarianism being the soul of conservatism if perhaps my favourite of his many contributes to the political cortex.

Then there is the angry, spiteful, control freak conservatives. The types I refer to as "conservatives". They've never had to face the same abusers that many Canadians do.

Yeah, this is interfering in politics that does not concern Trump or the US.

To be fair, you are right. It would be stupid lol.

There is only one Trump. These celebrities who try to engage in politics as he did are always going to be lacking that "stuff". You can't define it, I can say I've seen in people including myself, but not for long durations.

No other celebrity or politician has it

Look idiot, stop pretending that Trump is some kind of wise political sage. He's about to **** this country up and you think he's a great choice that's going to save the world from WW3. Anybody trump suggests should be soundly rejected by the Canadian people. Gretzky was a great hockey player, but that doesn't mean he can be a Prime Minister.

And that's the problem, the one trump is about **** up a great country. You need to stop worshipping him since you won't move here and live under his policies.

Give the man a chance for the love of...

Can't you at least wait until he screws up before you go bonkers?

We gave the ************ 4 years. Biden fixed his mess.
Wow.

So at least say it, you're completely biased.

By most metrics, Biden has been very unpopular. He may leave office with the lowest approval rating in history while 100s of thousands of human beings are dead due to wars.

You didn't read the link. Gretzky isn't interested. End of story.

That is completely anti conservative and against the principles of supporting small accountable government, the foundation of conservatism.

W was 100% anti conservative, and that's why he was THE WORST TRAITOR in US history.

This general idea has enormous potential. I attempted to rival Mr. Justin Trudeau for the office of National Leader of the Liberal Party back in 2011 and 2012.... and I would try my best to assist Mr. Wayne Gretzsky, [or anybody in his family], who would show the political courage to attempt this themselves.

Couldn't possibly be worse than Trudeau...

EXACTLY!!!!!!

Wayne could not possibly be worse than Trudeau!!!
