Of course, I do not "worship" education because I recognize its value, to the individual, the community, and the nation, nor do I pretend to know how Jefferson would regard a current STEM curriculum (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) although, as a polymath, I suspect that his regard for learning would encompass those disciplines as well as the humanities.

His recognition that knowledge is a benison to the individual as well as to society was succinctly expressed by his boast,
”Ours are the only farmers who can read Homer.”
