Donald Trump And The Ghosts Of Rome

Historians would bear me out when I say that when it comes to Donald Trump, his 'America First' rhetoric and highly publicized misconduct align him most closely with Nero, Rome's infamous emperor known for his ambition, controversies and self-promotion. Like Trump, Nero enjoyed a fiercely loyal support base, even as his reign sparked debates and divisions among elites and the general public. Nero's self-assured style, combined with frequent scandals, drew fascination and criticism alike, mirroring Trump's own complex legacy. Yet, Trump also shares similarities with the lesser-known Caligula, a Roman emperor infamous for his audacity and unconventional approach. Caligula challenged norms, defied Rome's elite, and pursued his vision regardless of tradition—traits that mirror Trump's own disregard for Washington conventions, deep state and norms. Both figures embody a “disruptor” quality that simultaneously captivated and unsettled their societies.

The Political Splintering

Then there's the political strain. Rome was rife with infighting, corruption and self-serving elites. America isn't facing quite that level of chaos, but the increasing polarization and deadlock in Washington feel ominously familiar. The US society is divided vertically, with the middle ground shrinking very fast. It's crying out for national unity. Rome, too, fell prey to this kind of division, with competing interests ultimately undermining the empire's stability. Economically, both empires grapple with inequality. Rome's wealth disparity led to an unhappy, disenfranchised underclass, one that had little stake in the empire's survival. The US also faces stark inequalities, with wealth concentrated in the hands of a few. As Rome's elite thrived on the backs of the masses, America's billionaire class has seen its fortunes soar even as many Americans grapple with stagnant wages and dwindling social mobility. An empire is, after all, only as strong as the support it commands from its people.

Disunity is rampant and income inequality is at an all-time high. Trump is mirroring Nero and Caligula and those were bad signs then and bad sign now.

The empire to fall soon?

The better analogy of the fall of the Roman Republic. The Republic fell after nearly 500 years because its people lost faith in its institutions, and parties refused to compromise. Sound familiar? Wealth disparity and social unrest became untenable. The wealthy like Crassus and the powerful like Sulla and Caesar took advantage of the chaos to seize power. Republics fall because their citizens just don't care anymore.

Just the other day, I was thinking this is a perfect analogy for what is currently going on in California.

So, now Trump is Nero?

What happened to the "H" man?

How about calling him Hitro instead?

The Empire will fall because of increasing Debt over decades .
To a level that is completely unsustainable .

Look at yesterday's humiliation from trying to sell 4 week Treasury bills -- !!!!!!!

Mucky Bum's schoolboy rhetoric ignores the obvious and is just more Un-american tripe and onions .

Clue one. America is NOT crying out for unity. Democrats and all that they bring has to be defeated. Unity is not only not on the table, it's not in the same room, house, subdivision, city, county, or country.
Such drama. Such idiocy. We lived through 8 years of Obama, 8 of Clinton, 8 of Bush, 5 of Trump and 4 of Biden and 4 of the other Bush with the biggest issues being:

  • Bush recession of 08
  • Bush wars
  • Covid
  • Wealth inequity

Nothing else has been a big deal to this country. Acting like liberals are an issues is just jerk off material for you from the wealthy looking to distract you from their theft.

Nero was a homosexual .. that fact alone aligns him more with todays modern left .

There are variations in that direction. The Tytler Cycle is one.... it starts with and in some order moves from bondage to spiritual faith, to courage, to liberty, to abundance, to selfishness, to complacency, to apathy, to dependence and then to bondage again.

Was Nero a sociopath? Just wondering because that's what Trump is.

Wow. How clever the left cult think they are because they have convinced themselves that an image that one of them found and slapped the name "Nero" on, looks maybe a little like Trump, and this PROVES that President Trump is a dictator.

This shit gets funnier by the minute.

Keep it coming.

Take all the POTUS for the past 30 years. Their fails don't scratch the surface of what that depraved sociopath has done to this once great country in the past 7 months. The son of a ***** ran again just to stay out of prison.

A dirt nap is long overdue.

America is crying out for democracy, sanity, and the rule of law.

Which is why Trump is more unpopular than ever.
