Does the Russian Collusion pattern over time have similarity to the Big Switch?

In the 1940s and 1950s, the Democrats were selling nuclear weapons secrets to Soviet Communists and spying for the KGB. Joe McCarthy was proven mostly correct in hindsight after the KGB released its files after the fall of the Soviet Union. Now it seems the Republicans are the ones allegedly colluding with Russia. Is this similar to the Big Switch where the racist Democrats all became Republicans and the Republicans all became Democrats? If so, would Joe McCarthy be a Democrat today?
