DETROIT (AP) — The union representing 45,000 striking U.S. dockworkers at East and Gulf coast ports reached a deal Thursday to suspend a three-day strike until Jan. 15 to provide time to negotiate a new contract.

The union, the International Longshoremen’s Association, is to resume working immediately. The temporary end to the strike came after the union and the U.S. Maritime Alliance, which represents ports and shipping companies, reached a tentative agreement on wages, the union and ports said in a joint statement.

A person briefed on the agreement said the ports sweetened their wage offer from about 50% over six years to 62%. The person didn’t want to be identified because the agreement is tentative. Any wage increase would have to be approved by union members as part of the ratification of a final contract.

A 10.2% raise a year for six years.....Looks like the price receiving of Chi-Com rubber dog puke just went up.

You know labor costs are passed on to the consumer, don't you?

If in the end it makes the cost of U.S. goods more attractive, is that a bad thing?

The big issue is still on the table and a lot more expensive. The shippers are looking to bring in more automation to replace jobs on the dock.

This will save money, but it will also make the Johnny Friendlys of the stevedore unions very unhappy as it will reduce the number of dues paying members.

Don't be fooled, they just want the money.....If automation takes some jobs they will think "well it wasn't me".

Whoops. Job numbers are out for September. 250K Jobs created and Unemployment fell to 4.1%.

Manufacturing jobs decreased by 7%......I guess those folks will have to learn to empty bed pans and make beds for half the wage.

I guess the Harris Campaign and the DNC got through to the union leadership that punting on this would be a good idea for everyone.

How is massively raising the cost of labor at these ports, not to mention standing against automation which would also make labor less costly, make the cost of U.S. goods more attractive?

You mean they actually showed leadership instead of posting a bunch of insulting tweets like an angry teenager? Perish the thought.

No they made a back-door deal and left the real issues to whoever gets in office next, which is probably Trump.

Naw, man, Trump isn't going to win, buddy. Not at the rate he's melting down.

It's nice to see real leadership instead of a petulant child.

The more you create a false reality in your own mind, the more it's going to suck when it comes crashing down.

They don't come into the ports.

Funny, I'd say the same thing about you guys.

Trump is trailing in nearly every poll, and he keeps saying Crazy shit.

Our country isn't that far gone....

oops, massive gain in jobs last month...

There are plenty of swing state polls that say otherwise.

And that gain will be walked back in a month or two like all the other ones in the past.

Every indicator is in Harris' favor, and Trump's behavior is getting increasingly erractic.

Get used to saying it, *****, "Madam President".

"indicator"
